OHIO: Gay Activists Work To Place Repeal Of Marriage Ban On November Ballot

Activists in Ohio have launched a drive to place a repeal of the same-sex marriage ban on the November ballot.

The Freedom to Marry Coalition expects to file more than 1,700 signatures of registered Ohio voters; 1,000 valid signatures are required in the first step of placing a constitutional issue before Ohio voters this fall or possibly next year. The proposal would change the Ohio Constitution — amended in 2004 to block same-sex marriage — to say that the state and political jurisdictions define marriage as “a union of two consenting adults, regardless of gender.” It also would stipulate that “no religious institution shall be required to perform or recognize a marriage.”

The proposed amendment will be submitted to Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today. (Tipped by JMG reader Arthur)

He was very cute, compact, could sing and had a funny dance. The accent topped it off.
I watched the Monkeys. Can't say it was my favorite show but then there was not 1000+ stations.
Cable had not been invented. I did listen to their music on the radio all the time. It was so exciting that Davy Jones was going to be on the Brady Bunch!
There was no VCRs or DRVs then so you were parked and ready when the TV warmed up.
The Partridge Family was the one I loved. I saw David Cassedy in concert but I was in love with Shirley Jones. I had a thing for her ever since I saw her in Oklahoma. I have a thing for musicals too.

I watch as another piece of me slips away....

This picture of the marine homecoming kiss has gone viral. It was picked up by network news programs and the response has been mixed. I went to several papers and read pages full of comments. I found them to be about a 60/40 split between the lovers and haters.
I did not see death threats but then many of the threats and really bad things were taken down. There were some nasty things left up. Here are a few samples.

The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear an appeal of a lower court ruling that NOM must disclose its donors in their successful battle to repeal same-sex marriage in Maine.

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear a constitutional challenge to a Maine law that requires those seeking to raise and spend money in state election campaigns to organize as a political action committee for that activity, and make significant disclosures about their financial operations. That was challenged in a petition, National Organization for Marriage v. McKee (11-599), after the state law was upheld by the First Circuit Court. The NOM is an organizations set up to promote the traditional view of marriage as being reserved solely for opposite-sex couples. It argued in challenging the PAC requirement that states do not have the constitutional authority to impose such obligations unless an organization has election campaign activity as its “major purpose.”

Is this finally the end of the road for NOM's flouting of Maine's campaign finance law? Will they now comply? Will we at last see the bejeweled Catholic hands pulling the strings at NOM? Experts? (Tipped by JMG reader Glenn)

14-year-old Sarah Crank testified before the Maryland Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee on January 31st. She urged the committee to give her "the best birthday present ever," by "vot[ing] no on gay marriage." She continued:

"I really feel bad for the kids who have two parents of the same gender. Even though some kids think it's fine, they have no idea what kind of wonderful experiences they miss out on. I don't want more kids to get confused about what's right and okay. I really don't want to grow up in a world where marriage isn't such a special thing anymore."

She is brief, polite, and totally non-threatening. Just a happy, smart young girl.

But it obviously struck a chord because within minutes after her testimony was posted online, the comments quickly turned vicious and ugly.

As documented by TFP Student Action responses to her testimony included:

"And now everyone knows her name, so hopefully she will feel what its [sic] like to be harassed and bullied..."

"My god I hate people like this. Most (not all) Americans are [expletive] retards. If I ever see this girl, I will kill her. That's a promise."

I do think that any threat is wrong. The people that wrote the bad comments should be ashamed.

That said.....NOM and this 14 year old lamb is full of S##T.
That girl got up and said what she has been programed to say due to her indoctrination into the crazy end of Christendom.
Just because you feel bad or that your God does like LGBT people or that it is your birthday is not a reason for those kids and their loving parents should have to suffer.

If you really want to feel bad think of the extra taxes, lack of health insurance, no Social Security benefits, or the people like you who make them feel like they don't count or their families are not good enough.

How about one parent dies and the kids are ripped away from the other parent because the law sees them as legal strangers. How about the surviving parent losing the house because they can't pay the extra taxes a REAL spouse would not and no SS to help out.

I feel sorry for the kid. She does not have a clue to the damage her words have.

I attended Kent State University for a total of 8.5 years and it was the best thing I ever did for myself.
I learned alot about myself and the world. I know that I can do anything I want if I work at it. I found focus and passion for my craft. I became part of .....the world.

This guy and the asshats that cheered want to keep people from learning about their part in the bigger picture. They need to keep them dumb so they can control them. Any crowd that would listen to this and cheer can NOT have had an education past high school.

The enrollment in colleges by "Non-traditional" has increased by 50% since the recession and the government is paying for most. New jobs ARE coming and by the time these people graduate, there will be a job market for the educated. People that can think and solve problems. People who will question and find solutions.

They want and need are drones who will not have a clue. Who will listen to this drivel and cheer.

“The trouble with life is that it’s so daily,” she continued. “You have to have a mind-set that you’re going to work out your problems and God is going to help you. But he’s not going to lay it all in your lap.”

I was in my last days of high school when she was telling lies in Florida. I remember when this happened!

I knew I was different but still had not connected the dots. We did not talk about it then. I did know that what she was doing was wrong and I should be paying more attention to this issue. Getting information was hard in the pre-computer age and the public library did not have the info I was looking for. I would have come out at a much earlier age if I was young today. I knew I was different since kindergarten.
All this talk of "homosexuals" cut her stardom short. No one wanted to have her as a spokesperson.

Hypocrisy Among Friends and Family

Hypocrisy as defined by Merriam-Webster : a feigning to be what one is not or to believe what one does not.
We often accuse people of being a hypocrites. Politicians that say one thing and vote another. The person in the next cubical that is friendly to your face but whispers bad things under their breath. The religious folks that attend church every Sunday but go home and kick the dog, pop a beer, and beat their wife or have sex with their kids. The religious leaders that protest against gays but later get caught with a "Rent Boy"
It is one thing to know a stranger is a hypocrite. It is easy to stay away from them and/or vote them out of office. It is another to be friends or have family that are.

Dealing with family that are hypocritical can be amusing at times. Pointing it out to them can be helpful or start a huge fight. Either way, they are your family and you just suck it up.
My baby brother does not take a stand on anything nor does he vote. I am a Democrat. The rest are conservative Republicans. I find this to be a great source of sad amusement.

I don't have health care. I have not had a job that offered a plan I could afford. I think health care should be affordable or free for everyone. It is necessary to the growth of our nation to have healthy productive people and no one should die from something treatable. They do not. To them it is a privilege and if you don't work hard enough to afford health care then suffer. Sounds cruel to me. So they suffer. I find a clinic that can help or point me in the right direction. They don't want socialized medicine yet my folks are on Medicare/Medicaid as well as paying for health coverage.

The biggest problem I have is that they will all be voting for one of the GOP clowns this November. They will support the GOPers platform and issues because most of them will not touch their lives. They don't have health care because they don't want it I guess. My brothers will not be getting abortions and they all think immigrants should go home. If they do stay, speak English. This is a tough bunch to love sometimes.
The kicker is that every GOPer wants to repeal every right and protection from us gay, lesbian, bi, and transgender folks. They do not want us married or even civil unionized. This is where my amusement ends. I am a married lesbian.

Ya see...it is not okay to say you love me and respect my "commitment" but vote for people that do not. It is not cool to be okay with my marriage but vote for people who want to take it back.
It is much easier to deal with my family now that I don't live so close but religion and politics are still forbidden subjects to discuss when we talk on the phone or Skype. We are family and we have to agree to disagree.

So what happens when you find out that a friend has proven to be a hypocrite? We choose our friends for many reasons and as friends we often look the other way when they make a bad choice. It is not our place to tell our friends what to do but to support them if the bottom falls out. I have had many friends. Some for a short time and some for decades. The short ones just fizzled out for one reason or another. The long ones become more like family because you are there come thick or thin. Not that I have not had issues with some of the bad choices they made but their choices don't affect me so much as it affects them. I am out spoken and honest with my friends and I expect that in return.

A friend does not say one thing to your face and another on facebook. A friend does not seem to be on your side of the issue then post the opposite on their wall. A friend is one who comes when you call crying. Is one who will not hesitate to offer a kidney. Is one who is there when your spouse dies. Who has said they love you. Who said they love your kids. Who sits with you in the ER. Who is thrilled it is nothing to worry about.
I can be friends with people that don't think we should be married if they are honest about it from the start but a friend does not say that they think our marriage is cool for years then facebook it isn't when equal marriage comes to town.
I am not sure what to do. I do know my wife is hurt. She has been friends with this person for 20-25 years.
Maybe I'll do what friends do. Talk about it over a cup of coffee.

Utah House Bans Birth Control Education - Bad Idea

The Utah House has passed a bill banning any mention of contraception in sex education classes. If a school does offer sex ed, it has to be abstinence only.

The state House passed HB 363 in a 45-28 vote following extensive debate. The bill -- which now goes on to the state Senate -- would lift the current requirement that all public schools must teach sex ed in grades 8 through 12. If the bill passes, districts would decide whether to offer sex ed classes that teach an abstinence-only curriculum, or not offer the course at all. Republican state Rep. Bill Wright sponsored the proposal. "We've been culturally watered down to think we have to teach about sex, about having sex and how to get away with it, which is intellectually dishonest," Wright said, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. "Why don't we just be honest with them upfront that sex outside marriage is devastating?"

Rep. Wright say his bill was prompted by Planned Parenthood materials which "promote promiscuity."

Abstinence only does not work. Teenagers WILL have sex, Sex ED or not, and there is nothing you can do about this given. Not giving them the tools and education to make better choices WILL cause more teen pregnancy and STDs including AIDS.
I am all for abstinence as one option but not the only one. It will be interesting and sad to watch the stats climb in Utah. It is sad to know that their kids are going to suffer because their leaders are so afraid of sex themselves that they want to keep their kids in the dark about the many dangers of having unprotected sex.

The GOP clowns all want to end abortion even from rape, no gay adoptions, and end prenatal care with insurance coverage. First, they are all men! They do not have to carry an unwanted child. They will not be the ones adopting those unwanted children. No prenatal care means more sick and dead babys. Second, who is going to pick up the tab for all those sick, dead, and unwanted children?

I don't understand how "Small Government" can crawl into every womb and tell women what to do as if we don't understand what is going on. We are not stupid or in the dark about our bodies. (Unless you live in Utah). Sounds like "BIG" government to me.

How about the GOP get their collective heads out of the bedroom, quit thinking about others sex lives, and get on with the business of jobs and the economy like you said you were going to do.
Get rid of the red noise and floppy shoes too.

Newt, NOM, and the Catholic Church Have Their Say About Marriage in Maryland

As you know Maryland will have Equal Marriage 60 days after Gov. O'Malley signs the bill into law.
Naturally those that think this is a sin is crawling out to have their say about it.

Newt Gingrich, cheater and 3 times married, is not happy about it. Like he should talk about how others live their lives. "I think at least they're doing it the right way, which is going through voters, giving them a chance to vote and not having a handful of judges arbitrarily impose their will,” Gingrich said when asked about the votes in Washington state and Maryland. “I don't agree with it. I would vote no if it were on a referendum where I was, but at least they're doing it the right way."
At least it was done democratically. I am guessing he does not talk much to his sister, the lovely Candice who happens to be a married lesbian.

NOM is buzzing now they have another state to invade with their lies and hate. From their web site comes this URGENT message....

They better stay away from my neck of the woods because every single person I have talked to since we moved here thinks Equal Marriage is a good idea. Only one exception was a very Christian neighbor who is a sweetheart. We have talked about "gays" and marriage many times and she likes us. Her husband likes us. They will think twice when at the polls because they see that we are not all the bad things they have been told. I am sorry they moved last fall.

The Catholic Church seems to think they own Baltimore. Yes they are big here but they have been loosing ground.

I am guessing that the good Cardinal has not seen this.....

It’s a popular stereotype that Catholics are more conservative than their Protestant counterparts, but a new report reveals that Catholics are more supportive of gay and lesbian rights than the general population and other Christians. But, depending on how one reads the numbers, the study could be a mixed blessing for marriage equality supporters.

On the issue of marriage, the report [pdf], compiled by the Public Religion Research Institute using past polls and studies, showed “nearly three-quarters of Catholics favor either allowing gay and lesbian people to marry (43%) or allowing them to form civil unions (31%). Only 22% of Catholics say there should be no legal recognition of a gay couple’s relationship.”
This is surprising and welcome news.

In fact many people of every faith are coming forward to say they think gay is okay and are joining the growing percentage of Americans that think the same way. Many have spoken about their personal struggle with this issue in testimony after testimony in several states. Some have come to the conclusion that God loves everyone and we should all be equal. Some have separated church from the secular and realized they can not impose their beliefs on the rest of us so as a secular nation, all should be equal. Good for them and us!

Every state that has Equal Marriage has had to put up with the lies, junk science, and just outright hate from those who will be on the wrong side of history. This year has seen a majority of Americans on the side of freedom and equality for all. Prop 8 has been called unconstitutional in several courts and the federal government does not want to defend DOMA. They are talking about how unfair it is that our married service members are not getting the same benefits as other married couples and families.

It is coming folks! The ball is rolling faster everyday in our favor because it is the right thing to do.
Those who don't like it need to get out of the way of progress.

WikiLeaks suspect Bradley Manning was formally charged on Thursday ahead of a court-martial that could see the US soldier sentenced to life in prison.

Manning was charged with 22 counts, the most serious of which is "aiding the enemy," for allegedly turning over a trove of classified US documents to WikiLeaks in one of the most serious intelligence breaches in US history.

The 24-year-old Manning is accused of passing hundreds of thousands of military field reports from Iraq and Afghanistan and US diplomatic cables to WikiLeaks between November 2009 and May 2010, when he was serving in Iraq.

The leak of the military documents shed light on civilian deaths, while the diplomatic cables sparked a firestorm by disclosing the private remarks of heads of state and candid observations by senior US officials.

Manning's supporters view the site as a whistleblower that exposed US wrongdoing and see Manning as a political prisoner.

I am listening to the Maryland Senate debate and argue the amendments to the equal marriage bill.
They passed it last year and nothing has changed since. I hope they get to the vote quickly.

So far All I have heard is how to keep religious liberty from being attacked.
Basically they want the right to discriminate against gays where ever and when ever they want.

It is sad that religion has produced so many that show "Christian love" by discriminating against same sex couples and their families. I really hate that " Love the sinner, hate the sin" crap.

They are so much more concerned about their "beliefs" than the welfare of those who deserve and need the protections that marriage brings to the family.

All have spoken well. For and against have given A LOT of thought and the vote should be coming up soon. This Senate has heard this before and they all have had more than enough time to know what their personal views are. After hearing many, many testimonies in several states, it is getting old.
Religion should have no bearing but it does. Yet some religious leaders have stepped up to support equal marriage.
Why can't people believe we have happy monogamous lives. That we have kids and what the best for them too. That it is not a choice ( no one would choose to be LGBT). It just is and we are fine with it. We just want the same thing they have for the same love and caring of our partners and children.
The next generation does not care and think it is stupid that we are still fighting about this. Thank Goodness. I would just like to see all Americans equal.

I picked up this clip at Buzzfeed.com where they have posted an article stating that the Dutch media is making a joke about the "facts" Santorum has.
"Public statistics, which have been reported since the practice was legalized in 2002, cite 3,136 reports of euthanasia out of a total of 136,000 in the Netherlands in 2011, a bit more than 2%."
"The Dutch were also flummoxed by Santorum's claim that Dutch elderly wear "Don't Euthanize Me" bracelets."
As for the abortion issue...Yes women used to get abortions in back alleys and it was dangerous. If he becomes President and stops all abortions, women will go back to the alleys like before. Is that what he really wants?

One of those things that make you go hummmmmmm. That is a pile of cash in a short time.

It is huge gifts like this that they DON'T want us to know where it came from and they are fighting across the country to keep from the public. They have been ordered by the courts several times to make public the list of donations over $5000 to their PACs in several states but so far...nothing. Including putting anyone in jail for failure to obey the order.

It has been hinted that the Catholic Church has been a huge backer. That would be a No No for the tax exempt church. HUMMMMMMMM.

The Obama Justice Department has concluded that legislation banning same-sex couples from receiving military and veterans benefits violates the equal protection component of the Fifth Amendment and will no longer defend the statute in court, Attorney General Eric Holder wrote in a letter to Congressional leaders on Friday.

“The legislative record of these provisions contains no rationale for providing veterans’ benefits to opposite-sex couples of veterans but not to legally married same-sex spouses of veterans,” Holder wrote. “Neither the Department of Defense nor the Department of Veterans Affairs identified any justifications for that distinction that would warrant treating these provisions differently from Section 3 of DOMA.”

Obviously this latest move will cause an immediate firestorm of condemnation and wailing from the enemies of civil equality. HURRAY!

Maryland Vote so Far

The opposition wanted to attach a bunch of amendments to the equal marriage bill. Most of them were to stall for time and were BS. All the BS was turned down and so was placing it as a referendum right away.

In addition to the press conference, the groups will host a community meeting for survivors of conversion therapy and individuals contemplating the therapy. Conservative Houston radio host Michael Berry has been identified on the security videos of a local drag bar shortly before he fled a hit-and-run incident in the club's parking lot. As I reported yesterday, Berry is known for fiery condemnations of minorities, with "crackheads and welfare queens" his most commonly-used expression to describe Houston's poor. Berry claims that his employers won't let him discuss the incident. Some say he fled the scene in order to avoid a DUI arrest, others say he left because he'd been in a gay nightclub.

On his radio broadcast Thursday, which was posted online as a podcast, Berry alluded to the controversy. "I've always said when you do what I do, the way I do it, you make enemies. When you poke your finger in as many people's eye as I do every day, you make enemies," said Berry. He said that his detractors "will accuse you of most anything" and he added, "You have to trust that in the end, the system works itself out, that there are checks and balances, there are people who will verify. But you also recognize that there are some people who want you to be crushed. There's some people who hate you. There are some people who privately would benefit from you not being on the air." He said he does not respond to reporters who question him "on their turf" because it is subject to editing. However, at no point in his broadcast did he deny being behind the wheel and at no point did he address his presence in the club. "You simply cannot go out there and chase down every nasty thing that is said about you. Just because someone says something nasty about you doesn't make it true," he said.

Local prosecutors have demanded that the Houston police charge Berry after public outcry that his fame had allowed him to evade investigation.

The Governor of Maryland, who like Governors Gregoire and Cuomo is Catholic, expounded upon his evolution on the marriage issue publicly last night. The Baltimore Sun called it "his most detailed explanation to date for the evolution of his stance on gay marriage":

During the hour-long conversation in front of roughly 120 people, the governor said that his long-held private belief in civil marriage for same-sex couples was sacrificed for political goals. When running for governor in 2006, he said, he decided to publicly support civil unions because at the time most Marylanders supported a distinct form of union for gay couples.

"I was mayor of the city of Baltimore then and my political advisers and friends went absolutely nuts and said 'There is no such term as "civil marriage" … if you use the term "civil marriage" you are going to jeopardize whatever hope we have to defeat the current officeholder and make the sort of strides, in any number of areas, that [then-Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. is] opposed to on these things," O'Malley said.

In July, O'Malley announced that he would throw his support behind a bill to legalize marriage for same-sex couples in Maryland. When asked at the announcement why he changed his position on the issue, O'Malley declined to elaborate, except to say that growing up in the Catholic Church influenced his early thinking on the topic.

Wednesday night, he said, "So I stuck pretty much to civil unions, believing honestly that that was the place where a public consensus could be forged that could move us forward. ... I have since seen that this debate is moving much more quickly."

The debate has moved much more quickly. Even President Obama, who has yet to evolve, said on October 27, 2010, "The one thing I will say today is I think it’s pretty clear where the trendlines are going."

Let's not forget, it's a smart political move. O'Malley is often mentioned as a possible 2016 presidential candidate. Andrew Cuomo, who is also on that list, set a pretty high bar on marriage equality. In 2016, it will be politically untenable for any Democrat running for President to be on the wrong side of marriage. Given the polling and the momentum, that should be the case with our nominee in 2012, too. (Just #evolvealready, it is the right thing to do morally and politically.)

Help Me Answer This Question - IRS Are We Married or Not?

When 2 people fall in love and decide to marry they should be aware of each others debt. When 2 people get married they responsible for each others debt. We are fine with that. But.....

As 2 lesbians we do not receive the same benefits, 1300 of them, for being married. We are legal strangers to the federal government. So...

If the federal government does NOT recognize my marriage, how can they take my wifes tax refund to pay my debt?

On Feb. 14th in New York, Faithful America members and faith leaders including Bishop Gene Robinson, Episcopal Bishop of New Hampshire, gathered at MSNBC studios to deliver 20,000 signatures calling on the network to stop inviting hate group leader Tony Perkins onto their news programming.

MSNBC sent down representatives to accept the petitions but remained non-committal about their willingness to change their policy.

The above video is of their delivery combined with footage of Perkins on MSNBC.

I like what these folks did and I salute their efforts.

But I'm also going to be honest.

I feel a little reticent about news networks banning Tony Perkins on their shows. I hate for him to play the martyr. "Oh they are banning me because they don't want any discussion on homosexuality," Perkins would say. "Oh those intolerant homosexuals."

It is a sad truth that the news media treats Perkins like a legitimate source, regardless of the myriad of things his organization, the Family Research Council, has done to denigrate the lgbtq community. FRC has relied on junk science, cherry-picked studies, or out-and-out lies to demonize us. It is also a sad truth that very few in the media have questioned him on these things

When they do address it, they ask him general questions and allow him to go on a monologue about his supposed Christian values.

What we need is a 60 Minutes type investigation or a huge magazine expose on the Family Research Council and other groups like it. There needs to be a huge amount of detail as to how these groups pick their so-called experts, how they cherry-pick studies, and their tendency to rely on junk science. There also needs to be some exposure as to how deeply affiliated some members of Congress are to these groups.

And I have said this more than once - I can't believe that the lgbtq community have several magazines and our own network, but none of these entities, at least to my knowledge, have decided to undertake this initiative.

No matter how many petitions we hand in or how loud we gripe, FRC and groups like it will continue to get away with their phony veneer or respectability until WE rip it away.

And frankly we have not begun to do it yet.

I am going to send a copy of this out to several networks and see if anyone nibbles.

The Anti-Gay Not-Scouts _ Shame on Them

Because of the recent furor over the Girl Scouts' inclusive membership policy, an anti-gay alternative called the American Heritage Girls is seeing an explosion in membership.

The group started with 100 girls in Ohio, and in recent weeks has surpassed 18,000 members in 45 states and six countries. Nine groups with a total of 357 girls meet in the St. Louis area; there were five local groups at this time last year. They are based at private schools and churches in Jefferson, St. Charles and St. Louis counties. Founder Patti Garibay, who had been a longtime Girl Scout leader for her daughters, wanted a choice. "We are faith-based, and they are secular, and that's a change," she said. "We're not for everybody, but we're obviously for a lot of people." Garibay estimates that 90 percent of Heritage members have left the Girl Scouts. Shanna Stewart, who home-schools her two daughters in Wentzville, found American Heritage Girls after becoming concerned when she learned the Girl Scouts had invited a lesbian to speak at the national level. "They were encouraging girls to embrace whoever they were; it didn't matter what choices they made, as long as they were true to themselves. That was a concern."

Like the Boy Scouts, the American Heritage Girls ban atheists and gays from becoming members or leaders.

Having been both a Girl Scout and a Boy Scout leader as well as born and raised in Ohio, I have had my share of conflicting emotions.

I loved being a Girl Scout. It was also when I became aware I was different from my friends. It is very nice to know that the Girl Scouts will accept all girls, LGB and T.

I loved being a Boy Scout leader. Knowing my son would benefit from scouting and could give him a foot in the door as an Eagle Scout was reason enough to hide my orientation. It just so happened that the troop leader was a lesbian too so we paired up and had a great time. We won awards for more food collected 3 years in a row. We expanded our meetings to 1.5 hours because we were having so much fun and 3 of our boys went on to become Eagle Scouts, my son did not. That's OK.

When our boys went up to the next level of scouting, I dropped out. It was about the same time it became public that the Boy Scouts did not want LGBT kids or leaders. I was sad and angry that the government supports that BS.

Since when does "...encouraging girls to embrace whoever they were; it didn't matter what choices they made, as long as they were true to themselves." become a bad thing?

It is a shame that some kids can't be scouts because of who they are. It is shameful that some kids are being taught that being LGBT or not being Christian is so bad that they can't join.

This goes out to my family in Ohio. The ones who bother to vote or care about politics are Republicans. We try to stay away from politics when we get together because we are from opposite ends of the political spectrum.

We do give our families alot of slack. We are so grateful we are not kicked out, ignored, or hated for being who we are that we often let things slide to keep the peace. We don't talk about our friends or what we did over the weekend if it has anything to do with "gay" stuff. We bite our lips or go out for a smoke when the conversation gets sticky because we don't want to make waves. It is easy to say "We're here, We're queer, get used to it" during the parade but NEVER at a family gathering.

It makes me sick to know that they are voting in a religious, homophobic, health care is a privilege not a right, lets go back to the 50's kind of candidate. It is hard to know that they think my "commitment" in 2006 was ok and they came to celebrate but my legal marriage in 2010 is not.

I love my family and would do what I could to make sure they are treated with respect and dignity for who they are. I wish they would do the same for me.

Ohio is not gay friendly and this is part of the reason.

NEW YORK: Clergy To Protest MSNBC For Hosting Anti-Gay Hate Group Leaders

Tomorrow progressive and LGBT clergy members will protest outside the Rockefeller Center headquarters of MSNBC to express their anger over the network's routine hosting of viciously anti-gay hate group leader Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council. Via Advocate:

“FRC has been designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center for using dishonest, incendiary rhetoric about gay and lesbian Americans,” notes a press release from the online action network Faithful America, “but MSNBC has continued offering a friendly venue for Perkins, neither informing their viewers of FRC’s status nor including any rebuttal from progressive religious leaders. Perkins has appeared on MSNBC more often this year than on any other cable news network.” The clergy group will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Rockefeller Center in New York City, the building where MSNBC is headquartered, then deliver petitions bearing 20,000 signatures from Faithful America members. “The delegation will remind MSNBC that the hateful views of Perkins and the Family Research Council aren’t reflective of the faith community and demand that the network stop inviting him on the air to represent the views of Christians and other people of faith,” says the press release.

It's about damn time! I know there has been lots of letters and phone calls about putting Hate Groups on as "authorities" on LGBT issues as "balance". When a group is pointed out as hateful by a reliable source and a large part of the population that is suffering from their hate, it is time to STOP giving them air time to spread lies and more hate.

There are almost 5000 comments posted in the thread — these are from the first few pages. Notice that the racist bastards deliberately misspell their slurs or insert random spaces, so they aren’t caught by word filters. And many of the worst comments have numerous “likes” from other commenters.

NJ Passes Equal Marriage Bill !!!!

The New Jersey State Senate just passed the equal marriage bill 24 to 16. Now it is off to the Assembly where it should pass with no problems. There should be enough votes to pass it even after Gov. Christy vetos it. I don't know how Gov. Christy can ignore the arguments for marriage.

I have listened to testimonies for and against and can not for the life of me understand how equal marriage can, has, or will hurt anyone. It can only serve to enhance or country and move us forward as a free and equal nation. Anything less than that is Un-American.

Last Night in Maryland - The Best Testimony

Having had a busy day, I was not able to listen in on all the Equal Marriage testimonies. I did play catch up and caught the last 4 hours.

For the most part it was all the same stuff from both sides.

Those against were mostly based on religious reasons sprinkled with the lies and twisted truths they believe are true. No REAL reasons for denying couples equal marriage. Some were delivered with grace but most were delivered with a sense of urgency and anger. All see it as a threat.
I will spare you from listening to the worst one I recorded for 2 reasons. First, I am new to the Podcast site I needed to get the clips up. Second, I don't think we need to listen to the Fire and Brimstone rants of a poor soul that could benefit from therapy.

Those for equal marriage gave the usual jumble of LGBT families, friends, and allies.
Not many of them were angry. Most were heartfelt. Some were funny. Most were focused on the family while others focused on benefits to the state and the lack of real reasons to deny equal marriage.
This was the most eloquent and well spoken speech I caught Last Night in Maryland. Get a tissue and be ready to cheer.

One of the major anti-gay groups currently opposingthe effort to legalize same-sex marriage in New Jersey is the New Jersey Family Policy Council (NJFPC), which claims to stand “for traditional values in the State of New Jersey.”

Unfortunately, NJFPC’s website reveals that the organization’s supposedly“traditional values” are far out of the mainstream, especially in a state in whicha pluralityof voters supports marriage equality.

NJFPC’s promoted publications include materials that promote a number of anti-gay falsehoods. Some are relativelytame, like the myththat the legalization of same-sex marriage reduced marriage rates in Scandinavia. Others, however, make extreme and damaging claims about LGBT people:

NJFPC Myth: Homosexuality Is Not Inborn

In a NJFPC’s brief titled“Preserving Marriage and Protecting Children in New Jersey,” the group falsely claims that there’s no scientific evidence that a person’s sexual orientation is primarily determined by biological causes:

Homosexuality is not inborn.One of the main reasons homosexual activists insist that they deserve “equal rights” with regard to marital benefits is because they wrongly equate homosexuality with an immutable or inborn characteristic such as race. There is no “gay gene” that predetermines homosexuality, and there is no scientific support for the belief that homosexuality is primarily determined by biological causes. The complex roots of homosexuality develop over a period of time from birth through adolescence. Later in life as these factors converge, they play a strategic role in the choices people make involving sexual relations.

NJFPC Myth: Homosexuality Can Be Cured

NJFPC’s brief also claims that “former homosexuals” can change their sexual orientation and live“happy heterosexual lives” – an assertion that’s been widely challenged by medical organizations:

Homosexuality is not unchangeable. Many former homosexuals are now living happy heterosexual lives. Dr. Robert Spitzer, the psychiatric professor and researcher behind the American Psychiatric Association’s political decision to remove homosexuality from the list of disorders, conducted a recent study of ex-homosexuals. Based on the results of his study, Spitzer now says some people can change their sexual desires from homosexual to heterosexual.

NJFPC Myth: Gay Parents Result In Gay Children

NJFPC’s brief also suggested that same-sex parents could encourage children to be “confused about their own sexual identity” and engage in homosexual behavior, a theory that’s been debunked by major psychiatricand psychologicalorganizations:

Dr. Judith Stacey and Timothy Biblarz re-evaluated 21 psychological studies conducted between 1981 and 1998 that purportedly found no differences in children raised by same-sex parents. They found instead that children of homosexual couples were more likely to be confused about their own sexual identity, more likely to engage in homosexual relationships and more likely to be promiscuous.

A number of pathologies plague homes of same-sex couples, including higher rates of promiscuity (Journal of Sex Research, 1997), physical disease, mental illness (Archives of General Psychiatry, 1999), substance abuse (Nursing Research, 1994; Family Planning Perspectives, 1994), and domestic violence (The Medical Institutes for Sexual Health, 1999).

The only epidemiological study to date on the life span of homosexual men conducted by the British Columbia Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS Research revealed that life expectancy for gay and bisexual men is between 8 and 20 years less than for all men.

From NJFPC’s brief “How Will Same-Sex ‘Marriage’ Affect Me?”:

Teaching our young people that same sex “marriage” is an equal alternative would be highly irresponsible. Although those seeking same-sex “marriage” attempt to portray their lifestyle as normal and healthy, and the media propagates the image of the fit and well-adjusted homosexual relationship, the reality is at polar opposites.
In addition to the high risk of AIDS, substance abuse and mental illness, homosexuals/bisexuals are at an extreme risk for a host of sexually transmitted diseases.

NJFPC Myth: Homosexuality Is Linked To Child Molestation Scandals

A NJFPC editorialtitled “The Catholic Church and Molesters in the Midst” used the scandal surrounding child sex abuse in the Catholic Church to reinforce the extreme anti-gay smearthat gay men are more likely to molest children than heterosexual men:

Since the sex-abuse scandal involving priests was first reported, it has received huge media attention and much of it is rightly deserved. Child sex abuse is an offense against humanity that should always be prosecuted and a Catholic Church or any other church that covers up such a violation of sacred trust should be exposed and prosecuted.
However, there are two important factors that are not being properly highlighted in the media:
1. The vast majority of the sex abuse scandals coming to light involve male priests and boys, making the priests involved homosexuals, not just pedophiles. Unfortunately it is not politically correct to draw attention to that fact. As Father Richard John Neuhaus said, “The overwhelming majority of these cases involve homosexuality, but the media steers away.”

NJFPC, along with Gov. Chris Christie and several Republican lawmakers, is calling for a referendumon the issue of same-sex marriage in order to prevent a marriage equality bill from passing through the Democrat-controlled legislature. If that happens, will NJFPC let voters know exactly how extreme its “traditional values” are?

New York Rabbi: Use Chemicals To ‘Cure’ Homosexuality

Rabbi Yehuda Levin (no relation), ally to the National Organization for Marriage, responded to Chaim’s recent remarks by suggesting that gays should seek out ANY treatment to quell their attractions, including, “as a last resort you use chemicals to stop the urge to act in a forbidden manner… Unpleasant, surely; but better than committing adultery, homosexuality or incest.” Chaim replied that the Rabbi Yehuda is “extremely dangerous, hurtful, and reckless” whose “deplorable” comments could drive gay teens to consider suicide.

BRITAIN: Muslim Men Sentenced For Distributing "Death To Gays" Pamphlets

Three Muslim men have been sentenced to prison for handing out "death to gays" pamphlets in the British town of Derby. Last month the men were found guilty of inciting hatred under the recently revised Public Order Act, which now forbids such anti-gay actions.

Ihjaz Ali, Kabir Ahmed and Razwan Javed were found guilty of stirring up hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation at Derby Crown Court last month. The leaflet, titled Death Penalty?, was distributed in the build-up to a gay pride event in July 2010. Ali was jailed for two years while Ahmed and Javed were given 15 month sentences. It is the first prosecution of its kind since new laws came into force in 2010. Ali, 42, of Fairfax Road, Ahmed, 28, of Madeley Street, and Javed, 27, of Wilfred Street, had claimed they were simply doing their duty as Muslims to condemn sinful behaviour in society. Two other men, Mehboob Hussain and Umar Javed, who were also charged with the same offence, were found not guilty. Judge John Burgess said: "You have been convicted of intending to stir up hatred. "It follows that your intention was to do great harm in a peaceful community."

Lawyers for the men objected to their prosecution on the grounds of freedom of speech, pointing out that the pamphlets merely quoted well-known passages from the Koran. However the judge noted that the materials also stated that "capital punishment" was the only cure for homosexuality.

Some times I get frustrated by those who call me names and spread lies about my LBGT population. My wife and housemate have asked why I read and post news on these people and sometimes I wonder if we just ignore them they will stop. This great explanation was posted at joemygod.com.

Some folks are highly critical of this blog's heavy coverage of AFA radio host Bryan Fischer. Yesterday Right Wing Watch blogger Kyle Mantyla laid it out just as I have here several times.

We often get asked why we pay attention to Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association and the relentless string of bigotry he produces on a daily basis; the assumption being that by highlighting his statements we are just giving him the attention he desires and that if we ignored him, he'd probably just go away. Obviously, we disagree and try to explain that we pay attention to Fischer because he is an influential leader within the Religious Right movement who is taken seriously by leading Republicans in Congress. And today's program provided a perfect example of this, as Fischer spent ten minutes once again going after JC Penney for hiring a known sexual deviant like Ellen DeGeneres immediately before conducting an interview with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Fighting over Marriage

As you know the decision from the 9th Circuit Court came in and the shit has hit the fan!

The court clearly stated that Prop 8 was unconstitutional because it had no good reason to TAKE AWAY an EXISTING right other than to hurt a minority. Yup! LGBT People in California could already get married BEFORE Prop 8. Prop8 did not help anyone. It only hurt LGBT people.

So It is unconstitutional to take away an existing right. Sounds fair to me. Plus the whole thing only applies to California. No where else.

The court also said that the supporters are able to defend Prop 8 when and if, BIG IF, the Supreme Court of the United States decides to take the case. ( They don't have to.) Then the entire trial will be repeated and the outcome of that trial will only apply to California.

Now lots of people, good and bad, have been weighing in on this decision. They all have lots to say.

The LGBT folks are seeing this as the correct thing to do and are busy giving kudos to those who have fought and supported them. As Americans we can't be giving rights to folks, let them enjoy those rights for a while, then take them back. ( It happened TWICE over the same issue in California.) I think most Americans will agree with that.

Not everyone is happy about the decision and that is to be expected. The problem is they are not staying on task when they are arguing this particular decision. They tend to go back to the argument that LOST them the trial to begin with. (Of course we are not allowed to see the tapes of the trial but you can read the transcripts, watch reenactments of the trial, and if you can get a ticket go see the play "8" based on the trial.)
Some of the objections being tossed around range from true but don't matter to the outright lies spread by those Hate Groups I keep you all posted about. I would like to cover some of them with you.

Conservative Judge N. Randy Smith wrote that, "The family structure of two committed biological parents -- one man and one woman -- is the optimal partnership for raising children." This is true but pointless. First, only 7% of the families today are str8 married couples raising kids. That leaves alot of other families doing a good job raising kids out. Second, There have been studies released that maintain that same sex couples are doing a good job IF NOT better at raising kids than their str8 counterparts. Third, any 2 parent family decreases the odds of their kids dropping out of school and becoming a delinquent.
So while the statement is true, it is also pointless.

From the National Org. for Marriage ( One of those Hate Groups) comes this statement on their site yesterday. Judicial Overlords Declare Marriage Unconstitutional!
Now I have downloaded and read the entire 133 pages of this decision and no where did it find marriage unconstitutional. Marriage is a right given by the government to support those who are committed to each other and offer them incentives to remain married and raise children. The main decision was to not take back rights already given but because the rights in question happen to be equal marriage, the Hate Groups are having a field day.

Nom is not the only org. that has either misunderstood the decision or are deliberately misleading people.

Rick Santorum is claiming that the courts are calling them "Bigots and Haters". Not once did I see the word bigot or hater in the 133 pages I read.

Mat Staver, head of Liberty Counsel (Hate Group) "This is a travesty of justice and it undermines the legitimacy of the judiciary. When judges find that there is a constitutional right to same-sex marriage, it's absolutely absurd......they looked at their own ideological bias, their radical positions, not the Constitution itself." There are so many things wrong with this statement.
1. Marriage is not in the Constitution.
2. Appointed judges are put through a long and rigorous process to see if they have, can, and will judge any issue without prejudice or bias. It also was not a unanimous decision. It was 2 to one so I have to believe they debated this long and hard.
3. They did NOT "find that there is a constitutional right to same-sex marriage". They found that found that you can not give a right then take it back for no good reason.

This gem was Tweeted by Maggie Gallagher. You know, the one who is married but does not use her married name or wears her wedding ring. She is never home to tend to her husbands needs either.

Did not see the word "irrational" either.

Penny Nance, head of the Concerned Women of America, "...with a stroke of the pen these three judges have undermined the foundations of the family and liberty. Shame on them." Wow! That is so far off the mark!

As you can see, many of the far Left wants people to believe anything other than what the decision was about. They continue to spout off about the death of marriage if LGBT folks are allowed to enjoy the governments 1300 benefits they get for doing the same thing.

Keep in mind that many countries have equal marriage and they are doing fine. 7 states and DC have equal marriage and they are still here.
So far, there has not been much change in anything and there is no proof that equal marriage harms anyone or anything.
What it does do is brings families closer together. Promotes better health, happier kids, more community involvement, and security for the couple and their children. Equal marriage gives LGBT families the same positive emotional and family security as str8 families.

I don't understand why that is a bad thing.

Civil Disobedience May Be Necessary If Christians Are To End Their Oppression

Both should make us question whether IGB has actually done anything to help the suicidal queer teens it originally sought to help or, as Dan Savage told The Dallas Voice this week, whether anti-gay bullying has actually gotten worse since his campaign began.
During his keynote speech at the University of North Texas Equity and Diversity Conference today, Savage highlighted the IGB project's successes: it effectively put a gay-straight alliance in the pocket of any kid with a cellphone and has offered hope to countless kids - not only that their own lives might improve, but that their parents might eventually accept them, just as parents in some IGB videos have.
Savage said that the old deal for LGBT people used to be 'You're ours to torture until you're 18 and when you're 18 you can move away and if you're not too screwed up by then, you can build a stable life for yourself. But you can't still talk to the kids we're still torturing in the same families, the same schools and the same churches that we tortured you in. And if you try to, we will accuse you of being a pedophile or recruiting or corrupting our youth.'He says the IGB project destroyed that old order and effectively told its protectors, "We're gonna talk to your kids whether you realize you want us to or not. If you're not ready to parent those kids, we will help them, and one day you will thank us."
But while his campaign has helped push the issue of LGBT-based bullying into the national spotlight, Savage says that increased societal awareness of queer youth has actually made these days "the best of times and the worst of times" to grow up queer. No longer can a gay kid fly under the radar without their peers wondering why they're different or why they're not dating girls.
These days, Savage says, we have more anti-LGBT political initiatives and more so-called Christians talking about how being gay is a threat to humanity itself. And kids who see their parents bashing queers at the ballot box and the pulpit then go on to bash them at school, thinking that they're doing the right thing.
"Do you know what the It Gets Better project can't do?" Savage asked the crowd. "It can't end bullying. And we never said it could."
He's right. Right now the IGB website serves as a storehouse for all the user-uploaded video testimonies but no content telling kids how to handle actual bullying.
And rather than replicate the anti-bullying efforts of other pre-existing organizations, Savage directs LGBT youth advocates to support Al Franken's Student Non-Discrimination Act; the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN); the Trevor Project and the ACLU's anti-discrimination efforts for queer youth in schools.
"[The Trevor Project] is there to talk kids off the ledge, GLSEN is there to make sure there are fewer kids in our schools climbing out onto that ledge and the ACLU is there sue the crap out of schools that push kids onto that ledge," Savage told the university audience.
But ultimately Savage says that he'd like the IGB project to merge with another pro-LGBT youth organization rather than continue on its own. He added that he's in talks with several organizations about that prospect.
Savage ended his speech my mentioning, "People say, 'Are you thrilled with the success of the It Gets Better project?'... I would really be thrilled if we could pull the whole thing down tomorrow. If there had never been a need for it at all."

Why didn't Maggie Gallagher testify at original Prop 8 trial?

In celebration of today Appeals Court ruling against Proposition 8, I was going to write something uplifting about the perseverance of the lgbtq community.

But I decided not to.

For one, I am sure that there are so many others who are going to be dwelling on that subject. For another, based upon the reactions coming from the religious right, I feel that another direction is in order, i.e. a missive directed to Maggie Gallagher, the National Organization for Marriage, the Family Research Council, and all of those other folks whining about today's ruling.

This missive would have included Mitt Romney because of his negative words today. However, seeing that it is Mitt Romney, I figure a week from now will find him supporting the ruling.

Maggie Gallagher sent out the following twitter message:

Meanwhile, others such as the Family Research Council, Concerned Women for America, etc. have sent out the usual junk about "unelected judges," "activist judges," "redefinition of marriage," and all of the other hyperbolic mess we have come to expect from them.

But here is my question and it's relatively simple.

Just where were these folks when the original trial was taking place last year? Why didn't any of these folks testify as to why Prop 8 was needed? Remember, the pro-Prop 8 side could only find two witnesses and both did a poor job defending the law. One witness, David Blankenhorn, inadvertently made the case for the anti-Prop 8 side?

Where was Gallagher, Brian Brown, Peter Sprigg, Tony Perkins, or any of these other folks who put so much work in getting the law passed? Gallagher's tweet alleges that seven million people voted for the law. However amongst those seven million, only two witnesses could be found?

Who are they kidding?

All of this outrage after the fact is bogus. It's a diversion and a pitiful one at that. It's an attempt to obscure a basic fact.

And that basic fact is that Proposition 8 was built with deliberate lies that Maggie Gallagher, Tony Perkins, Peter Sprigg, and the rest of those pushing it were too fearful to defend in court.

None of these people - not one - had the guts to stand up in court, take an oath, and attest to the veracity of the claims they made regarding what allegedly would happen should marriage equality become legal in California because they knew that the lawyers attacking the law - David Boies and Ted Olson - would call them out and reveal their deception.

So Maggie dearest and the rest of you folks, please stop whining. You are not fooling anyone. You dug this hole yourself so you have no reason to cry out when the dirt comes in to bury you.

The Morning-After Pill Vending Machine- Interesting Idea

AP—Students at Shippensburg University in central Pennsylvania can get the "morning-after" pill by sliding $25 into a vending machine installed at the request of the student government.
The Etter Health Center at Shippensburg, a public school of 8,300 students in Appalachia's scenic Cumberland Valley, provides the Plan B One Step emergency contraceptive along with condoms, decongestants and pregnancy tests.
The pill is available without a prescription to anyone 17 or older, and the school checked records and found that all current students are that age or older, spokesman Peter Gigliotti said.
The machine was installed after a request from the student association. The pill's availability in a vending machine appears to be rare, if not unprecedented.
The idea started when Shippensburg conducted a survey about health center services several years ago, and 85 percent of the respondents supported making Plan B available, he said.
"The machine is in a private room in our health center, and the health center is only accessible by students," Gigliotti said in a statement. "In addition, no one can walk in off the street and go into the health center. Students proceed to a check-in desk located in the lobby and after checking in are granted access to the treatment area."
Taking Plan B within 72 hours of rape, condom failure or just forgetting regular contraception can cut the chances of pregnancy by up to 89 percent. It works best if taken within 24 hours.
Some religious conservatives consider the emergency contraceptive tantamount to an abortion drug. A spokeswoman for the National Right to Life Committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Jessica Sheets Pika, a spokeswoman for the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, said that "if the health center is manned 24/7, that sounds like it's a sufficient protection."
"But if there's a chance that people under 17 are able to access it, that's a problem," she added.
The drug isn't covered or subsidized by the school. Its price at the vending machine is set by the school's cost to the pharmaceutical company and is less than at off-campus pharmacies.

New York City Council Balks At Resolution Endorsing Churches In Public Schools

To the surprise of some observers and despite having dozens of co-sponsors, on Friday the NYC Council refused to endorse a resolution in support of a pending state bill that would allow churches to hold services in public school buildings. Religious groups are being booted from city school premises after the U.S. Supreme Court let stand a lower court's ruling that they should not be allowed to rent or have free access to public school spaces.

Andy Humm reports at Gay City News that the resolution was done in by complaints from openly gay Queens Councilman Daniel Dromm:

Dromm wrote to Council colleagues, “I believe allowing churches that preach virulent homophobia in public schools violates not only the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause but also New York City law.” Several students from the Bronx High School of Science testified against the resolution. “If someone is excluded because of sexual orientation, it is a violation of the school’s administrative code,” said Diego Velasquez. “Everyone is supposed to feel welcome. No one in the school is above the administrative code,” including outside groups. Bronx Science does not now have a church worshipping in its school, in part because the school is utilized by students engaging in extracurricular activities on Saturdays and Sundays. But any empty space in the school could be requested by a church whenever classes are not in session under the new state bill. The religious groups using the schools as their churches are capitalizing on the lack of after-school and weekend activities available to students in schools serving poorer students.

Dromm: "I am frustrated that sometimes my colleagues don’t seem to take these churches’ virulent homophobia as seriously as it should be taken. It is an outrage that progressive people aren’t as outraged as is necessary. These issues are at the core of determining whether you’re a progressive."

Last month anti-gay hate groups led a coalition of local church members in a march over the Brooklyn Bridge to express support for the bill. FRC head Tony Perkins and other leading opponents of New York's recent marriage equality law have loudly lobbied Albany for the bill's passage.

I am a regular reader and fan of Pam's House Blend. She is a voice for her state and for the transgender population. Pam's site is one of the few gay news sites that include transgender news and commentary and I have learned much about the discrimination and misinformation of our transgender brothers and sisters.

As usual, this guy does not have a clue what being gay is.

Back in Ohio, I can't count how many times I have been told that I "Just need the right man".

I was busy messing around in the studio for most of the game but made an effort to be parked on the couch for Madonna. If you missed it....click here

Wow! I love the entrance and every song. The floor and light show were awesome and I think the World Peace at the end was very good. We all cheered.

I am ashamed to say I am the same age as Madonna. She looked and danced great! The costumes were awesome and the dance teams had great energy.

Of course, I was watching to see if she "misbehaved" and DAMN if she did! Several times! Lets see if my list of bad behavior comes close to the list that surely will be posted from Bill "Blowhard" Donahue of the Catholic League.
While I was hoping for a wardrobe malfunction, I think the planned show did the job.

1. Right off the bat she start with the controversial "Like a Prayer". One of my favs.

2. Due to the costume theme some guys were in tunics which could be considered a dress by the Right. The great "low wire act" was sure to piss off Bill because it was a boy in a dress.

3. What lesbian worth her salt would not love to watch Madonna rubbing around with a beauty during "Different Kind of Girl"

4. Of course there is the "Flipping of the Bird" by M. I. A. during her close up in “Give Me All Your Luvin'”

Recently, the National Organization for Marriage's president, Brian Brown, put up the following on the group's blog:

Last April, the Navy issued new "sensitivity training" guidelines that required Navy chaplains to perform same-sex marriages. Thanks to leadership from Congressmen Tim Huelskamp and Todd Akin, the Navy backed down and rescinded the guidelines.

Of course this is a lie. The letter actually said chaplains can choose to perform these marriages. They are not required to.
This deliberate lie was noticed by several bloggers. Rob Tisiani of Box Turtle Bulletin said the following:

This falsehood is now up on NOM’s blog, where I’m banned from commenting. I invite you — ask you, beg you, beseech you — to go there and point out the truth to NOM’s readers. They won’t believe it (they might not even get to see it!), but that doesn’t matter: there’s something to be said for telling the truth just for the sake of telling the truth.

I am also barred so I couldn't respond. NOM consistently bars commentators from its blog who make it a point to challenge the group on its lies, even if the challenges are done in a respectful manner. However apparently a lot of folks who aren't barred took it upon themselves to tell NOM that Brown's claim is a deliberate lie. Some of the comments are as follows:

Brian - Perhaps you should show us this REQUIREMENT for chaplains to perform same sex weddings. No pastor has every been required to do so and you know it. While gay marriage never made it into the 10 commandments, I'm pretty sure lying did. How do you reconcile this?

"Required" is not a synonym for "allowed."

NOM caught lying again, at this point it's redundant.

Liar Liar Liar they are NOT required to perform them there is a moral exemption clause in the general order.

I think the policy should be that Brian Brown should get his facts straight. That's a joke--I know I'm not answering your question. Seriously though, this type of flagrant inaccuracy is unacceptable at any level, especially for the president of a national organization. NOM supporters, you should demand the truth. After all, you're the ones giving away money.

Interestingly enough, one of the few comments in support of Brown's post doesn't exactly help NOM's sweetness and light image:

I called and made another donation to NOM. We ask a lot of our military, having to worry about someone staring at their backsides should not be one of them.

I guess you can't be shocked when trash attracts trash. If you feel inclined, go to NOM's blog post and remind the organization that lies in the name of God are still lies

You do know that your lies are being noted and corrected all over the net.
We are over you and the lies you spread to drum up funds. This has been reported to the Southern Poverty Law Center who is keeping tabs of the constant lies NOM tells to make LGBT people look bad.
I already think of NOM as a Hate Group because of the lies, twisted truth, and misleading studies you present as "facts"
A lie is wrong no matter what religion you are.
