At the first-ever NAACP town hall on LGBT issues last Monday, July 25, lesbian actress/comedienne Wanda Sykes talked about how the black church preaches that being gay is "an abomination" so she tried hard to pretend she wasn't a lesbian, including getting married. But then she realized that something was wrong, "Hey, you don't have breasts. That's what it is." She said "praying away the gay" doesn't work and leads to alcoholism and other problems.
Recently out CNN anchor Don Lemon moderated that panel during the NAACP's 102nd convention at the LA Convention Center and also said that "praying away the gay" didn't work for him either.
