Minnesota Marriage Ban

Not 5 minutes ago the Minnesota Senate Just voted yes to ban gay marriage.
There was very little offered in defence of the bill. The figures, facts, and warm and fuzzies did not sway the vote.
Yes Minnesota, you just voted on the wrong side of history again.
My heart goes out to those Family members and their familys'.

TEXAS: Man In Critical Condition After Beating Outside El Paso Gay Nightclub

A 22 year-old man is listed in critical condition today after being beaten by a group of men with a baseball bat outside the popular El Paso nightclub, Old Plantation. Media reports are light with details so far, but two JMG readers from Texas have written to say the attack was a gay bashing.
Police said the man was waiting for a ride outside the Old Plantation Night Club, 301 S. Ochoa, when a verbal confrontation began between the victim and six other males. The verbal confrontation became physical and the six suspects allegedly began punching, kicking the victim. The group allegedly also used a bat to hit the victim. One of the victim's friends, a woman, tried to help and had her vehicle damaged as she tried to do so. A suspect struck her 2003 Jeep Liberty windshield with a bat to stop her from helping the victim. The suspects then fled the area in what appeared to be a van.
I'll update this post when we know more.

ILLINOIS: Catholic Charities To Defy Civil Unions Law On Gay Adoptions

See my comment on the subject below. Thanks

cross post from joemygod.com

Catholic Charities of Peoria, Illinois says that it will continue to deny its adoption services to gay people despite the recent failure of a bill that would have exempted them from anti-discrimination laws. Civil unions go into effect in Illinois on June 1st

"The Catholic Church is not going to be OK with Catholic Charities processing applications from anyone in a civil union," said Trish Fox, who runs Catholic Charities of Peoria. "And all we're asking is that we can continue what we've always done, which is refer cohabitating couples, heterosexual or homosexual, to another agency."
The group says they'll close their doors before complying with the law. Catholic League blowhard Bill Donohue offers his congratulations.
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Peoria does not discriminate between heterosexuals or homosexuals. It simply defends the institution of marriage. Heterosexual men and women who cohabit are no different from homosexual couples who live together: neither are married and both are therefore disqualified from receiving the sponsorship of Catholic adoption services. They can go elsewhere, and are indeed advised of alternative services by Catholic Charities. But no one has a right to demand that a religion forfeit its doctrinal prerogatives by bowing to the secular creed of the state in matters of marriage and the family. Those who truly believe in diversity will respect the plea for pluralism made by Catholic Charities. If separation of church and state means anything, it means the right of religious bodies to practice their faith without state encroachment.
Except, of course, when religious bodies receive massive public assistance.

This is not the first time the Catholic Church and their charities have  pulled the plug on helping the poor or adoption services.
They did in DC when gay marriage became legal there. They closed up shop and left the poor go hungry and kids that had hope, nothing.  They were collecting 2 million in public funds to assist them in finding homes for kids in need but rather than abide by the Anti-Discrimination laws, they closed 11 charity sites. All this did was prove that they are not about true charity. As far as I know, no one has stepped up to take over. Very sad.

I have no problem with people's belief systems as long as they keep it to themselves and not try to push in on me or to inject them into secular law.

Catholic Charities have done a great job to help when government agencies are overwhelmed but the true test of charity and Christianity is to help anyone in need.

Basically, if you want to help the needy and you are getting public funding, you have to abide by the public laws of non-discrimination. Otherwise fund it your self. This is not a hard concept to understand. It is sad that the catholic church will close their doors than embrace the true word of their faith.

What would Jesus do? I don't think he would give a crap if a couple or the kid was gay as long as they have a shot at being happy and loved together.

Powerful Statement by MN State Rep. Steve Simon

This vid has gone viral. For those who use their faith to discriminate, ask yourself this, “How many more gay people does God have to create before we ask ourselves whether or not God actually wants them around?”

This is the TV spot that will run in New York where they are fighting for marriage. Frankly...

The Ladys' are very sweet but will not do a thing to change minds. We need to let the people know about the lies. We need to be as nasty as a political spot.
"Here is the dirt on NOM" and list the lies. Do 15 second spots.  Lie #1, #2, #3, and so on.

Appeal to the American. "Being an American means never having to discriminate"
Really work the internet with short spots and ads on OTHER SITES, not just the LGBT ones. Stop preaching to the choir and take it out to the streets!
Cut back on the fancy parties and put it into huge advertizing. Mags, newspapers, TV, radio,...everywhere. It is not like some of the orgs. around the country can't find enough to put up a billboard.
Anything but the sweet sappy ladys that I will be ignoring while going to the bathroom or frig. MAKE SOME NOISE!

Google Made Me Misty Last Night

Just after Glee started last night, Google ran an ad for their new browser, Chrome.

It is a beautiful combo of video for the "It Gets Better" project by Dan Savage. Get a tissue.

I hope Goggle runs this everywhere!

Birther Survey Finds...........

That there still a bunch of morons that have nothing better to worry or bitch about than if our current President is a "real" American.  Go find something better to waste your time and frustrations on like jobs, homeless, hungry, abused, or the enviroment.
Obama IS President. Has been for 2.5 years and will continue until his term is up  and there is NOTHING you can do about it.

I will vote for him again because the only ones running against him are a bunch of nut jobs.

Sixteen percent of all voters and 30% of Republicans do not believe President Barack Obama has proven he was born in the U.S., even after release of his long-form birth certificate, a new IBOPE Zogby interactive survey finds.
These results are from an IBOPE Zogby interactive poll conducted April 29-May 2, which was after Obama released the birth certificate and addressed the news media on the topic. Demographic groups besides Republicans expressing the highest levels of doubt about Obama's birth in the U.S. are conservatives (34%), and those without a college degree (21%) vs. those with a degree (11%).
The IBOPE Zogby interactive poll of 2,020 likely voters has a margin of error of +/-2.2%. A sampling of IBOPE Zogby International's online panel, which is representative of the adult population of the U.S., was invited to participate. Slight weights were added to region, party, age, race, religion, gender and education to more accurately reflect the population.

61 years together, haven't they waited long enough?”

Press Release from Freedom to Marry

“Richard and John are the quintessential New York couple. They met at Juilliard and have spent most of their lives together here,” said Evan Wolfson, Founder and President of Freedom to Marry. “They are still obviously so deeply in love after 61 years and yet after all those years of commitment, being there for one another through the ups and downs of life, they are still being denied the one thing they want most – the freedom to marry in New York. It is time to change that. After 61 years together, haven't they waited long enough?”

Great Animation on the Capture of bin Laden

Bin Laden Dead - About Bleeping Time - Now What

Just before I fell asleep last night I heard Osama Bin Laden was dead. All I have to offer is "What took so long?!"

Not that I want to take any of the relief or celebration from those who have been touched by the damage done by this man, but it is not over. Someone will fill his shoes. I sure hope it does not take 10 more bleeping years to catch him.

It will never be over. 9/11 changed America in many ways and we will never be the same.

I think this quote says a lot.

In an analysis of the impact of Osama bin Laden on the U.S., the CBC's senior Washington correspondent Neil Macdonald has written, "In many ways, Osama bin Laden died the victor.... The United States became a meaner, more paranoid, more impoverished place.... Thousands of people were locked up on flimsy pretexts and held for months without trial. Muslims learned to live with hard stares and suspicion. They were pulled off flights for the sin of having prayed publicly. Gradually, the Muslim world began to believe it was at war. One can only imagine bin Laden's delight.[151]
"Congress passed the grotesquely named Patriot Act, removing civil liberties that took centuries to earn.... National security, rather than life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness became the fundamental determinant.... A national media seized by a shameful fit of jingoism whipped up an already fear-stricken population.[151]
"Telecommunications companies were press-ganged into participating in illegal wiretap operations against American citizens. Habeas corpus was ignored; the White House arrogated to itself the power to pronounce an American citizen an 'enemy combatant,' stripped of legal rights or due process. Government secrecy and classification of information expanded exponentially. At the president's direction, White House lawyers concocted specious legal arguments allowing government agents to practise torture. They also began kidnapping people off foreign streets, sometimes the wrong people altogether, and shipping them off to regimes that didn't bother at all with legal opinions.[151]
"But bin Laden didn't just prod Americans into disregarding their own laws and principles when dealing with their real and supposed enemies; he goaded them into turning on each other.... Those who opposed going to war in Iraq, a country that had nothing to do with 9/11, were portrayed as unpatriotic haters of America. The cleavage between right and left, red and blue, urban and rural, became deeper than at any time in modern history.[151]
"Setting aside the trillions expended in Iraq and Afghanistan, we have bin Laden to thank for a lot of today’s economic misery.... But it was the loss of America’s liberties, the sacrifice of individual freedom, and the breakdown of its rule of law that was bin Laden’s greatest triumph."[151]

I want to blame George W. Bush and his administration for allowing this to happen.
For letting bin Laden's family board a plane and leave this country on 9/12.
For NOT blowing the mountain off the face of the earth when we knew bin Laden was hiding in a cave 9 years ago.
For starting a war with the wrong country.
For the lives of so many young men and women lost.
For the abuse of the American people by dividing us instead of uniting us.
For stripping us of our civil right to privacy.
For using bin Laden and his followers to create a United States of America that is scared and angry at ourselves, our neighbors, and our own government.

I read somewhere that terrorism is not so much the action but the effect is has down the line.
The Bush administration did exactly what the bin Laden wanted. Scared the shit out of us to the point we turned on ourselves.

Even though bin Laden's body is covered in whale shit, he changed the greatest nation in the world forever.

This will never be over. My country will never fully recover from the actions or lack of actions caused by our own government in response to 9/11.

Obama is LOL Funny

Our President is a very funny man. I think this was a perfect way to let them all have it about the birther crap. Almost pissed my pants funny.
