LARRY KRAMER RESPONDS TO SOME MISINFORMED CRITICS

Larry Kramer's comments in the NYT about marriage set off a firestorm. Today, Larry responnded. Posting in its entirety:
LARRY KRAMER RESPONDS TO SOME MISINFORMED CRITICS

It is very difficult to take a strong position in the gay world without being, at the least, misunderstood, and at the most extreme, vilified mercilessly. I suppose it’s like this in the straight world as well. Perhaps I shouldn’t bitch so when I’m taken to such extremes as a recent quote from me in The New York Times has provoked. I have always maintained fervently that in our world, in any world, you have to speak loudly and boldly to be heard at all. And my loud voice, which I cherish and try to use as much as I can to aid causes and beliefs I support, is one I wish everyone else also possessed and used. God, whoever made us, gave us voices to use, to speak up with. So I shouldn’t complain when my anger comes back to hit me in the face. Usually I don’t. Usually I’m pleased when my words provoke a usually passive population into getting off their asses and, well, using their own voice.

I am upset this time, though, because I’m being tarred for something I did not say. And this misstatement in my behalf is now escalating beyond sane margins and I feel the need to step in and respond, to hopefully turn this into what I believe is known as “a teachable moment.”

I did not say, “Larry Kramer Hates Gay Marriage,” as The Times quote has now allowed many bloggers around the world to revise, rewrite, and circulate like mad bulls seeing red.

Here is what I wrote and submitted to The New York Times:

“The historic and cultural significance of this moment is that once again the gay population of this country continues to accept second best. These marriages, in whichever state, are what I call ‘feel-good marriages.’ They convey little in the way of benefits (and in some instances they are even financially punishing to those who embark on them). Compared to the benefits heterosexual marriages convey, gay marriages are an embarrassment - that we should accept so little, and with so much hoopla of excitement and self-congratulation. Most straight people who are congratulating us so effusively don’t understand that these marriages share none of their federal benefits and entitlements, the right to inherit without punishing taxation, the right for our joint incomes not to be taxed so hideously high, the right to share insurances -- there are over one thousand benefits worth money that the federal government bestows on heterosexual marriages and which our state marriages don’t. So why do we continue to get so excited when so few worthless crumbs are thrown our way? I have from the beginning never understood the philosophy and tactics of our various organizations who appear to be calling the shots on this issue. If we are to wait for a majority of states to recognize gay marriages, we'll all be dead. When are we going to recognize that until the Supreme Court blesses our union, we continue to be worthless and powerless, which is the way our enemies wish us to remain. When will we face up to the fact that no sooner does a state grant us marriage, than our enemies immediately tie up the courts in endless litigations to disallow them, as in the monstrous mess that has become California. Our enemies have bottomless pockets to fight us with. It has been discovered that the biggest contributors to the California wars are and have been the Mormon and Catholic churches. I do not disparage any gay couple's desire to wed in New York, or anywhere else, and in so doing feel and take joy from this act. But let us all recognize that beyond this euphoria, these marriages are hardly worth the paper they are printed on. And once again, I can only raise the cry: how long are we as a people going to accept such shabby and unequal treatment?”

This is what The New York Times reduced the above complicated message to:

“Larry Kramer, the playwright and longtime gay rights activist, said that for as long as the federal government continues not to recognize same-sex marriages, the celebrations in New York on Sunday would be misguided.

“’These marriages, in whichever state, are what I call feel-good marriages,’ Mr. Kramer said. ‘Compared to the benefits heterosexual marriages convey, gay marriages are an embarrassment—that we should accept so little, and with so much hoopla of excitement and self-congratulation.’”

Now this response of mine has been headlined across the globe, from Broadway to the West End, from Kenya to New Zealand, as “Larry Kramer hates gay marriage,” followed by many commentaries about what a crank I am, what an old fart I have become, coupled with that classic gay insult, “and he’s so ugly,” ending with “when is he ever going to shut up?” As I said, I’m used to this. It comes with the territory. I just wish that ALL of us could read and digest and comprehend my complete statement as above and realize what I am really saying: We are being bought off, once again, with only a miniscule fraction of what we are entitled to as equal human beings under our country’s Bill of Rights.
Believe me when I say that I very much want to get married to my partner, but only when that marriage is equal to what heterosexual marriages convey by law, the law of the United States, and not just New York State.

And I do not disparage those who choose to marry under the present woefully unequal conditions. I just wish that they, and all gay people everywhere, would realize that they are accepting so little when we are pledged so much more by and in this one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Anti-Gay Christian Groups Can No Longer Profit Off Apple

From ThinkProgress come this good news....

Change.org petition gathered more than 22,000 signatures, Apple has removed their iTunes store from the Christian Values Network (CVN). When customers make purchases through CVN, a donation is made to the religious charity of the customer’s choice, and anti-gay groups like Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council use the service to raise money. Companies like Microsoft, Macy’s, Wells Fargo, Delta Airlines, and BBC America have all recently removed their stores from the network.

Anything to cut down on the support of Hate Groups. Thank you Apple!

Dan Savage's New Threat to Rick Santorum

This is funny and not at once. Dan has a way of saying and doing things that do get attention. Rick Santorum is  anti-gay , feeding his supporters full of the same vile crap that the Hate Groups throw around.  It is one thing to not like gay people. It is another to lie, spread mis-information, and name call as well as try to outlaw/ take back civil rights.
Beware! Dan WILL do this if Santorum does not stop.

Lesbian Couple Heros - Saved 40 from Norwegian Shooter

A Norwegian lesbian couple saved an estimated 40 young campers from gunman Anders Behring Breivik’s siege upon a summer camp last Friday.

Hege Dalen and her partner Toril Hansen were eating supper in the camping area opposite Utoya [sic.] island when they started hearing gunshots and screaming. Dalen and Hansen drove their boat to the island, and fished out of the water people who were in shock and young people who were injured and transported them ashore. Every now and then bullets almost hit the boat. Since they couldn’t fit everyone into the boat all at once, they returned to the island four times. They might have saved as much as forty people from the clutches of the killer.

Breaking: Ex-Gay Org NARTH can no longer provide continuing education to therapists in CA

This is cop out! They are stopping thier services but not because they are doing anything harmful and dangerous but because they can't train their people. I am glad they are closing up shop for now but the excuse is BS.

by: Pam Spaulding

NARTH, which claims that homosexuals can be "converted" to heterosexuality through various forms of therapy, had been an approved continuing education provider since 1998. But as of mid-July, the group has been taken off the California Board for Behavioral Science's list of such providers.

As it stands now, the BBS can't reject a continuing education provider due to its philosophy or even the validity of its scientific claims, executive officer Kim Madsen says, and "that's been a challenge." Instead, as long as the provider "meets the requirements as set forth in current law, we have to accept them." (Those requirements include providing direct or indirect patient care, having qualified instructors and submitting the appropriate applications and fees.)
At its September meeting, however, the BBS will be reviewing those laws and requirements and having a discusssion about what Madsen describes as "long-identified deficiencies in the continuing education model."

Gays Are The Children Of Satan

Found at joemygod.com . If this was not taken seriously by some it would be funny.
"In the case of being gay, or even worse, being born gay, that lie is directly opposite of God's word. Unlike the lie that alcoholism is a disease, this lie of Satan may endure until the second coming because it is part of what precipitates the final judgment over a lawless and reprobate world. In the absence of the magic alcoholic's gene that no one ever found, and the need to curb spending alcoholics were bounced off social security disability benefits all at once years ago. Gays are not drawing benefits for being gay but are yet clamoring for same sex civil unions and gay marriage benefits for their so called spouses. The most damning aspect of Satan's lies about being born gay is that it reveals who the source of the lie is, and at the same time identifies the believers of the lies, as his very own children." - Michael Bresciani of the hate group Renew America.

NOTE: According to Bresciani, gay marriage in New York will hasten the arrival of the anti-Christ!

CNN On Minnesota Bullying Battle

From Joemygod.com and CNN
It is long. Watch it anyway.

Kids are gay and no amount of denial will change that. Not talking about it puts them in danger. You would think after that many kids killing themselves the school and parents would do everything they can to make schools safe for all their students. The kid at the end broke my heart.

Gays are Worse Than Murders at Your Wedding!

As you know, over 800 LGBT couples won a lottery to get married across New York Sunday.
It was a truly blessed day and I  shed tears of joy for all those happy couples.

There are those who wished to put a damper on this historic day by showing up with signs and loud speakers.

Most of the mainstream news carried a segment about this beautiful day of love and the long over due chance to jump the broom while little attention was given to the poor shlubs across the street. They were a mere blurb in the end.

The Phelps clan from the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) arrived to show off their colorful signs about what they think God has to say about everybody but them. A rainbow of umbrellas went up to block the view so the happy couples did not have to be bothered by their vulgar signage.

My! Such a small cage for the dogs of war.
These umbrellas offered more than shade.

Shortly after the WBC set up, the National Org. for Marriage (NOM) and their leader Maggie Ziffel arrived by the bus loads. ( I am guessing they could not find enough New Yorkers to come so they had to bus folks in.) Most of the 12 or so buses proudly displayed "Rainbow Transit" on the side. Oh the irony!

The Jewish community joined the party with signs like this...
Img 3072I wonder what they think of Female Homos?

So after may pages of this historic day I felt it necessary to mention something from the other side for a "fair and balanced" report. So here is my blurb which is more than they deserve.

I would like to finish with what I think was the most touching of all weddings...

Great Marriage Video

I cry at weddings. All weddings, real, TV and movies. If you are like me, get a tissue. This is the best one I have seen from today.

The video is shaky but still history in the making. Congratulations to Kitty Lambert, Cheryle Ruddall and of the folks getting married in New York today:

So much more to come!!

When 99 is Comfortable

The last few weeks it has been hot as hell across the country. We have all found ways to deal with the heat and bless those who don't have anything but a fan to live in front of. We have central air for the first time in my life and while I am grateful, my bones don't like it much.

Yesterday I had a job face painting for a birthday party at a city pool. When I arrived it was 103 in the shade and if you were not wet from the pool you were wet from sweat.
My Grandma told me that Lady's don't sweat, they glow. Well Grandma, I was glowing like a waterfall.
It is hard to get face paint to dry or even stick when the skin refuses to stay dry so as you can imagine, all the kids had rainbows dripping down their cheeks.
Around 5:30 I noticed that I had stopped "glowing" which made it much easier to see and paint and the Sponge Bobs were staying put.
When I wrapped things up at 7:00 and began the long trek back to the car ( Patterson Park is HUGE and has no parking inside) I was glad it had cooled off and was almost enjoyable. I did not break a "glow" walking and was thinking about having my after dinner coffee on the porch as was my custom until the heat wave.
I have been suffering from cabin fever being stuck in the house so much and our dogs are driving us nuts from boredom. The only one who wants to be in this heat is my 18 year old cat named Barney Rubble. I don't think his bones like the air either.
I got to the car which was parked under a tree and was relieved it was not too bad. I have been in the habit of leaving the door open until I start the car and open the windows before I close myself up in an oven. Even then something happened that had never happened before, my glasses fogged up. When I started the car, my father-in-laws Cube, and looked in the rear view mirror to back up, I noticed that the outside temp was 99.

Wow, it is amazing how our bodies can adjust when 99 degrees is comfortable.
Stay cool my friends!

New York Weddings!

Via the NY Times:
The first marriages were scheduled to take place just after midnight in Niagara Falls, where officials planned to illuminate the famous cascade in the colors of a rainbow, and in Albany, where an eager mayor planned to marry eight gay couples.

In New York City, 823 couples signed up in advance to get marriage licenses on Sunday, and many of those couples were expected to marry minutes later in city clerk’s offices across the five boroughs. Officials from more than a dozen cities and towns from Buffalo to Brookhaven said they would open their offices to issue marriage licenses on Sunday, and more than 100 judges across the state have volunteered to officiate at the couples’ weddings on the spot.

Against a cascade of rainbow-colored falls, and with cicadas humming in the background, Kitty Lambert and Cheryle Rudd married at the first possible moment in Niagara Falls. After a bell tolled 12 times to ring in the new day, Ms. Lambert, 54, and Ms. Rudd, 53, held hands and kissed in front of more than 100 friends and family members.

A quote from the comment section at Pams House Blend about this picture of Brian Brown crying like a spoiled child:

"He and Maggie and Bryan and Tony and Bam-Bam and Porno Pete will be relegated to the dustbin of the History of Hatred, right along with the KKK, George Wallace, and so many others, Can you imagine having wasted your life at his work? Well, he makes a damn fine pile of money doing it. But I hope we put him out of work soon. He really is a sad and pitiful human being."
Today is a joyous day for all those about to jump the broom in New York!
Congratulations to all you newlyweds !

Worst Attack Since WWII - So Very Sad

I just saw this this morning. I can not express the saddness in my heart.
Norwegian authorities are holding a man described as a "Christian fundamentalist" in connection with yesterday's terrorist attack on a youth camp. At least 91 people were killed.

Only Losers Call People 'Nazis' And If You Don't Agree, You're A Fucking Nazi

From joemygod.com and Right Wing Watch comes this wonderful example of what a total waste of skin Brian Fissure is......
The American Family Association's Bryan Fischer is furious that somebody on the internet called him a "Nazi gas bag." Because only losers call people Nazis.
This a clear indication that the Left has lost the argument and the debate in public policy. Because name-calling is the first refuge of a man who does not have an argument. As soon as someone starts calling you names, then realize they're out of ammunition, they're out of arguments. They can't reason with you any longer, they don't have facts on their side, they don't have reason on their side, they don't have logic on their side, they don't have history on their side, they don't have research on their side, they don't have science on their side so they start calling you things like a "Nazi gas bag."
Bryan Fischer, two months ago:
Ladies and gentlemen, they are Nazis. Homosexual activists, when it comes to freedom of speech, are Nazis. When it comes to freedom of religion, they are Nazis. There is no room in their world dissent, there is no room in their world for disagreement, there is no room in their world for criticism. You criticize homosexual behavior, they tag you as a bigot and a homophobe and then they got to work to silence you just like the Roman Catholic Church did in the days of Galileo - it's no different; it's the Spanish Inquisition all over again. Ladies and gentlemen, they are Nazis. Do not be under any illusions about what homosexual activists will do with your freedoms and your religion if they have the opportunity. They'll do the same thing to you that the Nazis did to their opponents in Nazi Germany.
Right Wing Watch notes: "Bryan Fischer is a lot of things, self-aware is not one of them."

Ghana Arresting ALL Gays

Ghana appears to be instituting an aggressive anti-gay policy. This story is now getting coverage in the traditional media. It was reported at Box Turtle Bulletin on Tuesday:
From the the website of Ghana radio Joy 99.7, it looks like a full-fledged witch-hunt is imminent:
The Western Region Minister Paul Evans Aidoo has ordered the immediate arrest of all homosexuals in the region.

He has tasked the Bureau of National Investigations and all security agencies to smoke out persons suspected to be engaging in same sex. He also enlisted the services of landlords and tenants to provide reliable information which will lead to the arrest of homosexuals.

His directive follows months of campaigns against the practice of homosexuality in the country. Only yesterday, the Christian Council of Ghana capped months of protestations against the practice of homosexuality with a strongly worded message against the practice and courting Ghanaians not to vote for any politician who believes in the rights of homosexuals.
I can not imagine the fear our brothers and sisters are feeling at this moment. This is truly a sad day for them and the world. Please say a prayer for all those suffering in hiding or jailed for being who they are.
Goddess Bless

Everybody Wins NYC Marriage Lottery

Fresh from joemygod.com

According to New York City officials, ALL of the gay couples who entered the marriage lottery will be able to wed this Sunday.
The city had established a lottery as a precaution, worried that high demand would overload clerk’s offices in the five boroughs on the historic day. But in the end, demand nearly matched supply, with 823 couples applying for 764 slots. To accommodate the overflow, the city will allow an additional 59 couples to marry. But because of strained resources, 74 couples who had hoped to marry in Manhattan, home to the city’s busiest marriage bureau, will be asked to go to another borough. Those couples will be selected at random, and the city planned to notify them Thursday night. “Everybody wins,” the City Council speaker, Christine C. Quinn, said in a statement.
About 70 judges have volunteered to officiate at the ceremonies.

A Horde of Gay Barbarians Demand Discipline - Good Stuff !

Today a horde of gay barbarians marched into the Bachmann Clinic demanding to be disciplined. Dressed in barbarian like garb, the randy horde filled the empty waiting room to seek out Marcus. When the hefty Marcus did not appear, chants began to fill the air.
“You can’t pray away the gay — baby, I was born this way!”

Todays DOMA Hearings - Some Funny Stuff !

Today was the first day of hearings on the Defence of Marriage Act (DOMA).
I am so glad the hearings are being made public because the public needs to see and hear what is going on. They did not get a chance to watch the Prop 8 trial where lots of this was already hashed out and the opposition showed their ass.

This time not many of them showed up. One had the lame excuse....

Sen. Chuck Grassley explains..."The minority very much hoped to call a witness today at this hearing to testify in support of DOMA, I’m sure she would have done an excellent job. She declined, however, citing one reason the threats and intimidation that have been leveled not only her but her friends and family as a result of her support of DOMA. She will continue to write on the issue but will no longer speak publicly."

I am sure this did not go over well for them. Could it be that she did no show up because you can't lie at a hearing? I am sure she will continue to lie to her word processor.

Al Frankin pointed out a study that was manipulated by Focus on the Family senior vice president Tim Minnery when he claims that children are better off with married straight parents.

The best moment came when  Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) got Minnery to admit that children in same-sex households (and there are a lot of them) are disadvantaged by a lack of protection for their families:

Maggie and Brian did not show up. I can't imagine they were afraid of the Big Bad Gays.
Again....You can't lie in court.
So far the only argument is based on religion and that is not a valid reason in a secular court of law.

Andrew Sullivan - Wonderful Words

"For a long time, gays and lesbians braver than I was were effectively married and lived together, risking violence and opprobrium and isolation. For decades these bonds existed, and we knew of them even if we never spoke of them. I saw them up close as a young man in the darkest years of the AIDS plague. I saw spouses holding their dying husbands, cradling them at the hour of their death, inserting catheters, cleaning broken bodies, tending to terrified souls.

"This proved beyond any doubt for me that gay couples were as capable of as much love and tenacity and tenderness and fidelity as heterosexual couples. And when I heard their bonds denigrated or demonized, dismissed or belittled, the sadness became a kind of spur. For so long, so much pain. For so many, so much grief compounded by stigma. But we did not just survive the plague. We used it to forge a new future. And in the years of struggle, as more and more heterosexuals joined us, we all began finally to see that this was not really about being gay. It was about being human." - Andrew Sullivan, writing for Newsweek.

Something New for the Gay History Lessons

Yesterday the U.S. Senate confirmed J. Paul Oetken as federal district court judge, making him the first openly gay man to hold the position.
By a vote of 80-13, the Senate confirmed J. Paul Oetken, whom President Obama nominated in January to sit on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. A simple majority was required to confirm Oetken. Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights Campaign, praised the Senate for what he said was a “historic vote” in confirming an openly gay male to the federal bench. “Confirmation of Paul Oetken serves as a role model for all LGBT people interested in serving on the judiciary and shows LGBT youth that hard work pays off,” Solmonese said.

Is "Ex-gay" an Orientation?

There is a noise being made by several people and groups that think being "Ex-gay" should be considered as an orientation.

Wikipedia defines the Ex-gay movement as;
"The ex-gay movement consists of people and organizations that seek to get people to refrain from entering or pursuing same-sex relationships, to eliminate "homosexual desires", to develop "heterosexual desires", or to enter into a heterosexual relationship. "Ex-gay" is a term used to describe persons who were once considered to be gay, lesbian or bisexual, but who no longer assert that identity."
"Exodus International describes change as "attaining abstinence from homosexual behaviors, lessening of homosexual temptations, strengthening their sense of masculine or feminine identity, correcting distorted styles of relating with members of the same and opposite gender."[5] People Can Change defines change as "any degree of change toward greater peace, satisfaction and fulfillment, and less shame, depression and darkness," and emphasizes that for most people, heterosexuality is not the ultimate goal.[6] Some ex-gays advocate entering (or remaining) in a heterosexual marriage as part of the process. Some in mixed-orientation marriages acknowledge that their sexual attractions remain primarily homosexual, but seek to make their marriages work anyway.[7]"

I find it interesting the Alan Chambers, head of Exodus International agrees that people cannot necessarily change their orientation and has made the statement that he prays every morning to get through the day with out same sex attraction.

There are many reasons a person would not be happy being LGBT. Religion, family, school, friends, and peers all play a factor in how we fit in and how feel about ourselves. Because religion plays such an important role through out history and most have been interpreted to include that homosexuality is wrong, evil, dirty, and so on, it has been used as a tool against LGBT people.  When family and friends believe it is wrong and unnatural, it is hard to accept it in ourselves. Self hate can be just as destructive as others hating us.

Science has been studying sex and sexuality for some time trying to understand what makes us desire the people we do. Once religious beliefs were removed and studies were founded on research, we understand that sex and orientation is very complicated. There is no "gay" gene so far as we know but we do know there are brain activities that vary between homo and hetro people. We know that most people are aware at a young age that they are different from others which implies that we are born this way.
In 1975 APA issued a supporting statement that homosexuality is not a mental disorder.
The APA adopted a resolution in August 2009 stating that mental health professionals should avoid telling clients that they can change their sexual orientation through therapy or other treatments. The "Resolution on Appropriate Affirmative Responses to Sexual Orientation Distress and Change Efforts"[24] also advises that parents, guardians, young people and their families avoid sexual orientation treatments that portray homosexuality as a mental illness or developmental disorder and instead seek psychotherapy, social support and educational services "that provide accurate information on sexual orientation and sexuality, increase family and school support and reduce rejection of sexual minority youth."

Changing ones sexual orientation is harmful and should not be attempted. While a person can change how they choose to respond to desire and attraction they can not change their orientation.
Therefore there is NO SUCH thing as "Ex-gay".
If there is no such thing as "Ex-gay" then it CAN NOT be considered an orientation.

Straight Man Who ‘Appeared Gay’ Not Allowed To Give Blood

A blood bank in Gary, Indiana, rejected a 22-year-old man from giving blood because they said he “appears to be a homosexual.” “I was humiliated and embarrassed,” said Aaron Pace. “It’s not right that homeless people can give blood but homosexuals can’t. And I’m not even a homosexual.” The blood bank cited the 30-year-old federal policy of refusing to let any man who has had sex with another man, even once, since 1977 donate because of their perceived greater risk of transmitting blood-born diseases. Despite a chronic shortage of blood in this country, the American Red Cross stands by its policy of rejecting blood donations by gay men, despite the fact that all blood samples are tested for STD’s and other diseases.

Choice Piece of Hate from My Favorite - Brian Fischer

Please remember that a Hate Crime is when a PHYSICAL attack is made on a person for a specific reason such as race, religion, and sexual orientation. Not from just Hate Speech.

It does NOT say anything about changing a persons sexual orientation in the Bible.

SCIENCE and STUDIES are backed up by mainstream medical PROFESSIONALS that state that it is harmful and dangerous to try to change orientation and it does NOT work.

This guy is heard by 2 million people each day and they eat this shit up!
Fischer does NOT know what he is talking about.

Film about Mark Bingham - A Hero who Happens to be Gay

This is the trailer for a film coming out about Mark Bingham, the young man who helped bring down fight 93 in PA on 9/11. Mark was many things including brave. He also happened to be gay. Get a tissue and watch.

What kind of person wants to ruin someone else's wedding?

On July 24th gay folks will be able to marry in New York!!!!
Judges are volunteering to perform weddings on that Sunday. ( The clerks office will open for the special day and a judge can over ride the 24 hour waiting period.)
The day will be full of couples with family and friends to celebrate their love and lives together.

Many bloggers and news cameras will be in NY to film and talk with the newly married couples about what it means to them, how long they had to wait, and all the sappy stuff that makes love sooooo wonderful. ( ...I always cry at weddings...)

Also joining the party will be the Hate Group - National Org. for Marriage (NOM) and their bunch of  party poopers including Maggie Whatever her married name is.

Lets not forget that Maggie does not want gays to "destroy Traditional Marriage" yet she does not practice what she preaches. Lets look...shall we.....

Maggie had a child out of wedlock.
Does not use her husbands name.
Is in an interfaith marriage.
Is in an interracial marriage.
Does not wear a wedding ring. ( My guess is she got fat living on junk food on the road)
Is never home because of her job. ( What good Mom is not there for her husband and kids?!)

The spotlight will be on the weddings. Any coverage of the Hate Group will serve to show the public how ridiculous and ignorant they really are so....... I guess them crashing the party will
be in our best interest.

New Load of Crap from "Real Catholic TV"

I have seen this show off and on for years and it just keeps getting.....well....NOT better.
Pushing any form of Ex-gay therapy is bad.
The reason some LGBT folks are not happy with themselves is that they have spent a life time being told they are... evil, going to hell, bad, nasty, should die, should be killed, shipped off, jailed, and so on.
There is no way to change your orientation, just the way you act on it. If a person WANTS to be celibate, fine but because you are hiding from yourself does not mean make it the only choice for others and DOES NOT mean to try and turn your hate for yourself into hateful laws for the rest of us.
( Gee, there is a long this of people that have and are doing that.)

Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) Statement on DADT

SLDN has responded to the reports that Obama's DOJ is going to appeal the Ninth Circuit's recent DADT decision:
Tonight Army Veteran and Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) Executive Director Aubrey Sarvis issued the following in response to reports that the Department of Justice intends to appeal last week’s decision by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals regarding enforcement of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) law in the Log Cabin Republicans vs. United States case.

“At SLDN, we are frustrated by this last-minute filing, which could well add more delay and confusion for service members. This development only serves to underscore the need for immediate certification and finality.”
SU's Alex Nicholson, who was a plaintiff in the case, issued this blistering statement:
The Administration's response to this latest development in the Log Cabin Republicans lawsuit is unfathomable and confusing. 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' should be completely dead by now. Certification of legislative repeal has now been dragged out beyond a reasonable time frame, so the court stepped back in to get the job done. The President should just let this law die.

DOJ Wants DADT

From America Blog Gay......

The Obama Department of Justice is filing an emergency motion with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals pleading with the court to reconsider its order vacating the stay. The Ninth Circuit last week removed a stay against the worldwide injunction awarded in Log Cabin Republicans v. United States, effectively halting ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’

“This latest maneuver by the President continues a pattern of doublespeak that all Americans should find troubling. All this does is further confuse the situation for our men and women in uniform,” said R. Clarke Cooper, Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director, combat veteran and captain in the United States Army Reserve. “Let me be clear – the president is asking the court for the power to continue threatening servicemembers with investigation and discharge, and the right to turn away qualified Americans from military service for no reason other than their sexual orientation. Even if the administration never uses that power, it is still wrong, and the Ninth Circuit was clear that there is no justification for continuing the violation of servicemembers’ constitutional rights. ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ is an offense to American values that should have been gone long ago. It is shameful that a president who has taken credit for opposing the policy is taking extreme measures to keep it on life support.”

"The motion that the government filed today has no other purpose than to request - on an emergency basis - that the military be permitted to investigate and discharge servicemembers, and block new enlistments, based solely on those individuals' sexuality,” said Dan Woods, partner of White & Case and lead attorney in Log Cabin Republicans v. United States.

How much would the average person put up with having their lives scrutinized, bashed, and demonised?
How many times do you think they would put up with having to fight for basic rights and have them ripped away?
Would you like to have your rights turned off and on like a light switch at the hands of those who don't really understand your life to begin with?
My heart goes out to all those who serve our country for having your emotions on a roller coaster ride.
Our lives and love should not be treated with such disrespect. No one's should.

Hate Groups React To CA History Bill

From joemygod.com comes a few comments on the bill that Gov. Brown signed into law that will add LGBT figures to the state history book for all grades.

These people never read past the headlines. They just filled in the rest with their sick and twisted ideas about gay sex instead of what is really going to be taught. Our kids need to know who in history was gay and how it impacted their life and work. So many of the worlds greatest were LGBT and it did influence art, law, and science. Our kids need to know about those who suffered, fought, and died for our freedoms as a nation and as a minority group.
I would not teach any child anything more about gay sex and relationships than I would teach them about str8 ones and all would be according to the age of the child.

Catholics For The Common Good
Claims that this bill is needed to reduce bullying against children that are experiencing gender confusion or take on 'gay' or 'lesbian' identities are absurd. Children must be taught respect for all persons because of their intrinsic value, not because they agree with their behavior or like their characteristics. In fact, reducing people to merely a sexual identity obscures the fact that they are so much more than that.
Traditional Values Coalition
SB 48 was priority number 1 for Traditional Values Coalition. We committed all the resources we had to try to make sure that SB 48 failed. We are talking about molesting the minds of young impressionable youth, as young as Kindergarten, with an agenda and message that is not age-appropriate and that is offensive to the values of a vast majority of California’s families. We have failed at our core educational mission and yet we are now going to inject gay studies into the classrooms. It’s absurd and offensive.
Save California
It's ridiculous that Jerry Brown says he's making history 'honest'. The bill he signed prohibits teachers and textbooks from telling children the facts that homosexuality has the highest rate of HIV/AIDS and other STDs, higher cancer rates, and earlier deaths. These important facts about lifestyles children will being forced to admire will be omitted. And Brown calls this 'honest'? This revisionist history will actually make more children believe a lie -- that homosexuality is biological, which it's not, and healthy, which is isn't."

Phony victimization ruining American Christianity

From Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters comes this interesting piece.

According to Religious Right Watch, the Family Research Council is asking for folks to pray for Marcus Bachmann's clinic because supposedly it's "under siege" by the gay community because of its use of the faulty practice of reparative ("ex-gay") therapy"

Christian Counseling under Assault – This week a homosexual activist group reported findings from their undercover “sting” operation at Minnesota Christian counseling clinic owned by Republican Presidential candidate Michelle Bachman and her husband, Marcus. Sympathetic national media seemed shocked that the Christian counseling center offered help for homosexuals to break free from addiction to homosexuality through faith in Jesus Christ. Where will the homosexual assault on religious liberty stop?

Meanwhile, the right-wing website Lifesite News is sounding the alarm simply because NY Gov Andrew Cuomo has told the state's marriage clerks that they must comply with the law and sign their names on same-sex marriage licenses.

In these two stories is a theme which is recurrent throughout many religious right Christian and evangelical circles - the idea that someone's religious beliefs trumps the fact that they are not honest or that they have a job to do.

Both stories are really simple.

Bachmann lied and was caught in his deception. He initially said that his clinic does not engage in ex-gay therapy. And he was proven to be a liar by the undercover video.

But some folks who call themselves Christians aren't questioning the fact that Bachmann lied because they are too busy spinning conspiracy theories as to how the entire controversy is a "plot against Marcus and Michele Bachmann and evangelicals."

What's more, these folks actually embrace the fraudulent therapy done by Bachmann's clinic while conveniently omitting the fact that he lied about it.

And to top it all off, they do all of this while talking about "morals" and "values" and "upholding God's truth."

It's a bizarre gymnastic conundrum which should alarm anyone who really do care about morals and values.

The case in NY is even easier to figure out.

As shown by Lifesite News, some folks actually believe that someone working for state government should be absolved from following the rules of their job simply because they are Christian.

The question of where the line should be drawn is a serious one. It should not be taken lightly.

If state workers can use the Biblical verses as an excuse to not sign same-sex marriage licenses, then what's the justification of them not using Biblical verses to deny interracial couples their licenses (i.e. the Tower of Babel story) or refusing to sign licenses because the woman in the potential marriage may have signed it before the man (in defiance to what some say about the supposed subservient position of a woman in a relationship in accordance to Scripture).

Just when was the Biblical verse "render to Caesar what is Caesar's" replaced by "I'm a Christian so I deserve more rights than you?"

It's ironic that the same evangelicals and Christians who support all of this mess are constantly complaining about how Christianity has a bad name in this country.

Maybe these "Christians" should stop acting like a bunch of self-righteous, spoiled brats who want their way all of the time.

Photo: Father and son at first and last Space Shuttle launches, 30 years apart

I found this at joemygod.com

WOW! I am feeling my age. My son was born in June 1981. We have both been big fans of space. My whole family are big fans of watching all the landings on the moon and shuttles. I remember my Mom keeping us home from school to watch the first man to step on the moon. I remember watching as the Challenger blew up before my eyes and the sadness that followed.
30 years went fast!

Gay History in School?!!

Teaching LGBT history is going to make our kids gay!   It is sexual brainwashing!

Randy Thomasson of the Hate Group, Save California says that to teach kids that being LGBT is natural is a lie. Calling it  Sexual indoctrination. This is leading children astray and Jesus calls sin.

Michael Reagan (Son of a former President)- Should not the 'contributions' of convicted thieves be celebrated? Or those of serial killers? Or embezzlers? ( Don't you just love being compared to serial killers?)
Linda Harvey: Teacher Unions Are Paying Children To Become Homosexual

They will impose their "homosexual  agenda" on kindergartner's!

They will teach our grade schools children about gay sex!

This is what misinformed sheeple are saying .

Now the truth....

Equality California's  statement to Gov. Jerry Brown as to why he should sign the bill.
"As a community we must convince Governor Brown to sign the FAIR Education Act (SB 48 - Leno). We don't have a lot of time. Please email him today. http://tinyurl.com/sb48-b . This critical bill would ensure that students in public schools learn about the LGBT civil rights movement and the contributions of LGBT people to other movements and to society. With this bill, we will have the opportunity to define who we are, instead of being defined by harmful messages filled with bigotry that dehumanize us. We believe that learning about the heroic struggles of LGBT individuals and our diverse LGBT communities brings an understanding that prevents violence against our LGBT youth and those perceived as LGBT regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We are shifting the conversation. Instead of being stigmatized, marginalized and demonized, people will understand that we have a proud legacy and heritage of struggle and contribution.

Wikipedia's Timeline of LGBT history is a wonderful source that dates back to the 10th millennium BC. It chronicles our existence, art, persecution, discrimination, civil rights, gains and losses, and all the LGBT people involved.
Just a short list:
Military leader Alexander the Great, who was bisexual

27 BC – The Roman Empire begins with the reign of Augustus. The first recorded same-sex marriages occur during this period.

Nero becomes Emperor of Rome. Nero married two men in legal ceremonies, with at least one spouse accorded the same honours as a Caesar's wife.

The Christian emperor Justinian I (527–565) made homosexuals a scapegoat for problems such as "famines, earthquakes, and pestilences."

The term "Crime against nature" first used in the Criminal code in the United States.

Florentine court records of 1476 show that Leonardo Da Vinci and three other young men were charged with sodomy, and acquitted.

1895 – The trial of Oscar Wilde results in his being prosecuted under the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1885 for "gross indecency" and sentenced to two years at hard labor in prison.

1913 – The word faggot is first used in print in reference to gays in a vocabulary of criminal slang published in Portland, Oregon: "All the fagots [sic] (sissies) will be dressed in drag at the ball tonight".

1924 – The first homosexual rights organization in America is founded by Henry Gerber in ChicagoThe Society for Human Rights.[46] The group exists for a few months before disbanding under police pressure.

1933 – The National Socialist German Workers Party bans homosexual groups. Homosexuals are sent to concentration camps.

1937 – The first use of the pink triangle for gay men in Nazi concentration camps.

1952Christine Jorgensen becomes the first widely-publicized person to have undergone sex reassignment surgery, in this case, male to female, creating a world-wide sensation.

1958 – The United States Supreme Court rules in favor of the First Amendment rights of a gay and lesbian magazine, marking the first time the United States Supreme Court had ruled on a case involving homosexuality.

The Student Homophile League at Columbia University is the first institutionally recognized gay student group in the United States.

1973 – The American Psychiatric Association removes homosexuality from its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-II), based largely on the research and advocacy of Evelyn Hooker.

Our LGBT history is tightly woven into the fabric of all human history. Up til now, it has been invisible to everyone.
Making our thread visible will show the next generations that being LGBT is part of the human experience and it is OK to be the human you are. It will help make LGBT people less of a threat and foster tolerance for those of us who are different. Greater education and understanding leads to less fear, bullying, and violence.

Our history is not over. We are part of it NOW.

It will be good to not be defined by my orientation but by my contributions.

Anderson Cooper on "Fixing Gays"

Cooper discusses reparitive therapy and the "treatments" offered by Bachmann Clinic.
I am so glad this has been on almost every major news station.
Pay attention.

This woman should NOT be president of ANYTHING except her church bake sale where she is free to think and say anything she likes. She would be free to discriminate against any group for any reason and not sell them cookies as long as she stays on church propriety. She should NOT run a country based on her faith, what it teaches, or the junk science it promotes.

REAL science and REAL FACTS are for everyone. Faith is for the individual.

We need to get God out of our government and .............Our government out of God.
The government needs to stop supporting the opposition with tax exemptions and other perks to save the church money. They are fighting FOR discrimination and against fulfilling
"Liberty and justice for all". Why are we helping them?

Another Nutjob Runs Her Mouth - Almost Funny

From joemygod.com comes this gem. I wonder kind of mushrooms her and Sally Kern do.

Linda Harvey: Teacher Unions Are Paying Children To Become Homosexual

"The group’s website says they raise money for teen scholarships given to those kids who consider themselves homosexual. The past few years the scholarship winners have not simply been young people persuaded to be in this deviant lifestyle, but are students who have unfortunately bought the party line and become involved in activism projects like homosexual clubs and the pro-homosexual Day of Silence in their schools. And so now kids are given financial incentives to be actively engaged in both the political goals of homosexuals as well as the risky behavior. This is appalling. In these tough economic times many kids will be struggling to get money together for college and here we have a really sleazy connection for them to make. It’s just one more outrageous thing going on with our teachers’ unions." - Linda Harvey, whackadoodle leader of the SPLC-certified hate group, Mission America.

The Relentless Christian Crusade to Prevent Kids from Learning Science

From Alternet.org comes this interesting piece by Rob Boston .

We learned science in school and creation at church when I was young. We should be teaching facts. Not fables. I did not put up with my sons public school teacher teaching bible stories  and I would never go to a house of worship and preach evolution.  They are separate and very different. One is based on fact and one is based on faith. Fact is for everyone. Faith is up to the individual.
Keep in mind that this is the state that you "Can't say "gay"" and they just took all rights and protections away from the LGBT population across the state.

The debate that took place on the floor of the Tennessee House of Representatives in April could not exactly be described as a feast for the intellect.

Legislators were deliberating a bill that would open the door to creationism in public schools by requiring schools to “find effective ways” to teach about three “controversial” ideas: evolution, global warming and human cloning.

The discussion quickly degenerated into name-calling when one bill supporter called opponents “intellectual bullies,” reported the Knoxville News Sentinel.

One lawmaker even tried to press Albert Einstein into service. Rep. Frank Niceley, a Republican from Strawberry Plains, asserted that Einstein once said, “A little knowledge would turn your head to atheism, while a broader knowledge would turn your head to Christianity.”

Niceley should have checked his facts: Einstein, who was raised Jewish and usually referred to himself as an agnostic, never said that. Something similar was once uttered by English philosopher Francis Bacon – 400 years ago.

Government and Candidates Support Praying Away the Gay

Praying away the gay does not work. It has been shown to cause  damage to those who have been through the process. They take advantage of LGB people, often in vulnerable family situations or at grips with depression and self-hatred, and browbeat them—saying that LGB people never live happy lives, that we are unhealthy and unwhole, and that we never experience love and that the only hope lies in their therapies.
The Royal College of Psychiatrists shares the concern of both the American Psychiatric Association and the American Psychological Association that trying to change a persons orientation is dangerous and does not work.
Even when a persons behavior changes to appear to be heterosexual that deep in the core of that person they will always be gay. While there has yet to be solid scientific proof that we are born gay, there is plenty of proof that you can not change.
This first video is great!

This next video is disturbing in that one of the Republican candidates for President helps run a family business that promotes ex-gay therapy. Not only that, but they are taking in a great deal of state and federal funds to do it.
Not only should this ultra-christian nutjob not be president but her and her husband should not be in business.
Becker from Truth Wins Out, went undercover to find out just what went on and found several things disturbing.

"I was never told that every professional medical and mental health association rejects "ex-gay" therapy including the American Medical Association, American Psychological Association, American Psychiatric Association, and the American Counseling Association, or that the treatment I was seeking was totally unsupported by research. I was never informed about possible alternative treatment options such as gay-affirmative therapy. Nobody ever told me about the potential for harmful side effects like depression and suicidal thoughts. And although I was asked to sign a treatment plan outlining my problem, desired outcome, and treatment strategy, I was never given nor asked to sign any kind of informed consent document that disclosed the above information about "ex-gay" therapy. As such, I believe Bachmann & Associates to be practicing unethically, even by the standards of the American Association of Christian Counselors. This is particularly disconcerting given the fact that Marcus Bachmann's clinic has received significant funding from the State of Minnesota and the federal government."

What I don't understand is that people like this refuse to listen to scientific facts and theories when it comes to almost everything from the Big Bang to evolution but insist that "science has to prove gays are born this way." before they will accept gays as a normal and natural part of the human experience.
I also don't understand how or why our government continues to support this kind of "treatment" with tax exemptions and medicaid and medicare. Frankly, if the government would just weed out all the "bad" medical practices and watch for things like double billing, medicaid and medicare would be in better shape.

Truth Wins Out Undercover Operation Finds That Marcus Bachmann’s Clinic Works to ‘Cure’ Gay People

Read this and click on links for more info. OUR GOVERNMENT, STATE OR FEDERAL, SHOULD NOT BE FUNDING THIS !! WE HAVE TO STOP THIS ABUSE !

MINNEAPOLIS – An investigation by Truth Wins Out revealed today that the clinic of Marcus Bachmann, the husband of presidential candidate Michele Bachmann (R-MN), practices reparative therapy, a controversial and discredited clinical method designed to “cure” gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people. TWO’s findings contradict claims by Mr. Bachmann that he and his clinic, Bachmann & Associates, do not participate in reparative therapy. The story broke today in The Nation magazine where Mariah Blake reported on the results of our investigation.
“The results of our investigation should end all doubt whether Marcus Bachmann’s clinic endorses and practices reparative therapy aimed at changing a gay person’s sexual orientation,” said Truth Wins Out’s Executive Director Wayne Besen. “The facts plainly show that Bachmann’s clinic does try to cure gay people and he is being evasive when he claims otherwise.”
“It’s time for Michele and Marcus Bachmann to stop denying, dodging, and stonewalling,” added Truth Wins Out’s Communications and Development Director John Becker. “They owe it to all Americans to provide a full and honest explanation for their embrace of these dangerous and fraudulent practices.”
During a weeklong Truth Wins Out undercover investigation inside Bachmann & Associates with hidden cameras, Becker, attended five private sessions with Bachmann & Associates counselor Timothy Wiertzema.

The undeniable goal of the sessions was transforming Becker from homosexual to heterosexual. To his credit, the counselor did not claim that change would be instantaneous or even complete. However, he did explicitly promise that sexual conversion could occur as a result of prayer and therapy at the clinic.
During one of the sessions Wiertzema said, “…It’s possible to be totally free of [same-sex attraction]. For sure.” And that, “It’s happened! It really has happened to people.” In the fifth session, Wiertzema said, “…Obviously your goal is not to have any feelings of attraction for men…And I really am going to recommend that we start working on how you can develop your attraction towards women.”
At no time during the therapy was homosexuality portrayed as a natural variation of human sexuality. Instead it was presented as a treatable condition at odds with a normal and healthy sexual orientation. Becker was told by Wiertzema that “God designed our eyes to be attracted to the woman’s body, to be attracted to everything, to be attracted to her breasts.” Furthermore, according to Timothy, “We’re all heterosexuals, but we have different challenges.” Attraction to the same sex “is there, and it’s real, but at the core value, in terms of how God created us, we’re all heterosexual.”
Becker was never given nor asked to sign any kind of informed consent document that disclosed the dangers of or alternatives to “ex-gay” therapy. As such, TWO believes Bachmann & Associates to be practicing unethically, even by the standards of the American Association of Christian Counselors. Such therapy is considered ineffective and potentially harmful by The American Psychological Association, The American Medical Association, The American Academy of Pediatrics, and The American Psychiatric Association.
“What I found was particularly disconcerting given the fact that Marcus Bachmann’s clinic has received significant funding from the State of Minnesota and the federal government,” said Becker.

BREAKING: Pentagon Orders Halt To DADT Dismissals, Welcomes Openly Gay Troops

From the Army Times and joemygod.com

The Pentagon has ordered a halt to all separations of gay troops under “don’t ask, don’t tell” and will begin accepting applications from prospective recruits who identify themselves as homosexuals. The moratorium issued Friday came after a ruling Wednesday by a federal appeals court in California ordering the Defense Department to immediately stop enforcing the law. The court said the law is unconstitutional because it treats gay Americans differently under the law. Meanwhile, defense officials will continue to prepare for the law’s formal repeal, which Congress approved in December. The law will be formally repealed 60 days after the defense secretary and chairman of the Joint Chiefs “certify” that it will not adversely impact military readiness.

It's About Time!!!!

I want to thank all our LBGT troops for their unwavering loyalty and service to our country.
I thank all our troops for their service in this seemingly endless war.

Gripe About Batteries

Well folks, there is some good and bad news for us LGBTs and I'll post some later. Right now I have a gripe about batteries.

With all the high tec stuff comes the high cost of batteries, chargers, car chargers, and replacements.
My wife is a tec freak so as soon as a phone upgrade is available she has the latest new one.
I get the old one.
This upgrade needs all new car charger and cover or case as well and they are not free or cheap. Now she does not have a problem dragging cords around for all her stuff. One bag for school is full of wires for laptops and phone.
I hate being chained to a wall by a cell phone or laptop. What is the point of having the "freedom to go anywhere" if that really means "the freedom to find an outlet anywhere".

I have a desk top computer and my phone sits on the desk almost all the time. I never have to worry about my computers batteries running low or out and my phone needs to spend more time on the charger than not even when I do not use it.

My phone has all the whistles and bells. Touch screen full of apps I don't use, games I seldom play, and info alerts I still can't turn off. I do not like phones let alone one that tells me when I have mail, text, or actually rings.  The battery runs out after just sitting all day unused!
It does not like to be used in the house so most calls are taken or made outside. I often forget to take it with me which is why she got me a cell phone in the first place.

Our house is full of remote controlled games, toys, stuff...... and we spend a ton each month on all kinds of batteries as well as chargers plugged into every open outlet that suck up juice even when not in use.

Why can't manufactures make a battery that will last? If you are going to make new and improved stuff, why don't you make a new and truly improved battery for the damn thing?!

My phone sits on the desk so much I should just go back to one that is plugged into the wall with a recorder. At least people would understand when I don't answer my phone.
