Gays Vs. Hate Preachers- My Thoughts

Both these videos deal with results of Christian groups disrupting Pride events.
When I first started going to Pride many moons ago, protesters lined the street for the parade with bullhorns and signs saying....you know. Otherwise, they stayed out of any other events of the day.  (There was that bomb scare during a speech. We did not flee.)
Over time we have not seen that many. I haven't anyway. They have their spot to gather and they don't mingle much. Some of that maybe that the streets are now lined with supporters of all kinds. We pushed Them aside. There are more of Us and less of Them for the first time in our history and the numbers are changing quickly.

They are scared. We are getting more brazen. This is not a good mix.

Back in the day, we were told to never talk to the protesters no matter what and pickup after yourself because we need to set a good example. This is not being taught to our youth but then we did not have cell phones to record and post on the net. We also did not have disruptions like these from Them.

I did not get through either video. Both content and length were an issue for me.
I had heard and seen enough within the first half of each.

The first video is from Charlotte, NC at their Pride Parade. Watch the face on the young security guard in the yellow in the center of the screen. I felt sorry and scared for her. There was bus loads of people just like this young man in red shirts who dispersed into the crowd and did this same thing, disrupting the parade watchers.

The second one is from Brisbane, Down Under. Frankly, these young people made Us look bad but how would you act if someone came with bagpipes and interrupted your event to tell you how evil and sinful you are.

I watched a series called "Eye on the Prize". It was a wonderful documentary on the civil rights movement. I had often wondered what happened and how peaceful demonstrations to demand the same rights got so violent. What I saw made me ashamed of this legacy.
This violence did not start on the side of fairness and acceptance of fellow Americans and humans. This began when the side of discrimination and anti equality started throwing bricks and burning churches and children.

The same thing is happening now.

They are beginning to be outnumbered and no one is listening to their hate and lies. They WILL and HAVE said and done horrible things about a peaceful group of people. They kill our children by telling them how evil they are to the point they take their own lives. They too have burned people out of their homes and killed pets and livestock. They teach that God thinks it is good to hate.

We want to be equal to every other American. We are not the ones beating people up on the street, burning homes,  creating a huge population of homeless teens, or killing people almost everyday for who they are . We teach that God loves everyone and so should we.

We don't want this "war". We never wanted it. But it is coming. It will turn more violent before it is over.

Perhaps our adversaries should look back at history before they pick up a brick.

Recriminalization Of Homosexuality

One of favorite people to dislike greatly is back again to let you know there is no reason why we can't make homosexuality a crime again.

From Right Wing Watch comes the latest from Bryan Fischer

Billboard Of The Day

Found at joemygod.com     Very nice.

Richmond, Virginia's Gay Community Center has revived a billboard campaign first seen in 1987.
Each day tens of thousands of travelers traveling south on Interstate 95 and east on Interstate 64 will see this message of inclusion as they pass the Gay Community Center of Richmond. Perhaps some will learn. Perhaps some will come out. Just as in 1987, Richmond will be reminded that LGBT people are woven into the fabric of the city.
Hit the above link for more about the billboard and its history.

Prop 8 Tapes Trial

I have been following Prop 8 almost from the beginning.  Prop 8 deals with equal marriage in California. The Hate Groups pushed so hard with their lies that the LGBT folks have had the freedom to marry twice and had it taken back twice. This last trial is about making public the tapes where Judge Walker declared Prop 8 unconstitutional .

It has been 20 months since Judge Walker's decision. I have read the entire transcript of the his trial. I have seen most of the reenactments. All of which is on the Web.
Nothing of any significance has happened to any member of these Hate Groups.

They don't really have a reason to keep the tapes hidden except it WILL make them look VERY bad.
It is one thing to preach lies on a street corner. It is another to do the same in court.

11 Doctors have complained about Hate Groups twisting their studies.
They have formed their own fake Pediatric Association who make false claims.
2 witnesses dropped out before they were called.
The only 2 that did testify admitted that families and America would be better off with equal marriage.

After Judge Walker's decision it came to light that he is gay. The Hate Groups believed he should have recused himself. What difference would it make? He did his job. He listened and asked questions and came to a conclusion based on what was presented to him under oath.

They KNOW that when the tapes hit the air they WILL be exposed for what they are and they are scared.

Speaking of hiding information, one of the comments at joemygod.com brought up the FACT that the Hate Group NOM ( National Org. for Marriage) has been court ordered to make public their list of supporters. They were fighting that as well under the same meme of danger from the Gays. They have not disclosed any info. yet.

They keep saying they are in danger of physical harm when they really mean fiscal harm.

When everything comes out, and it will, those who have dedicated their lives to Hating LGBTs will be looking for jobs. Better yet, some will be looking to keep their hateful butts out of jail.

471 counts of molesting over 100 girls - Some as young as 3

Delaware pediatrician Dr. Earl Bradley has been sentenced to 14 consecutive life sentences after being charged with 471 counts of molesting over 100 girls in his practice.

The "vast majority" of Bradley's victims were under 3 years old, lead prosecutor Paula J. Ryan stressed in urging the harshest possible sentence for the once-respected physician whose crimes sent shock waves throughout Delaware and beyond and ranked him among history's worst pedophiles. "Earl Bradley committed unspeakable acts upon those who could not speak for themselves," Ryan told the judge. "He deliberately manipulated the parents of these children. He manipulated those who worked with him, and he repeatedly and intentionally -- without remorse or hesitation -- attacked and sexually assaulted toddlers and nonverbal children. "To make indescribable and horrific matters even worse, he videotaped these incidents for his own perverse pleasure, endlessly editing and copying, permanently memorializing his attacks on these children for his own twisted collection," she said.

This is one sick SOB.

At joemygod.com, Joe wanted to make a point by saying that this is "providing blatant proof that heterosexual men are all inherent molesters who should not be trusted around children." And that "The American people need to rise up and demand that heterosexual men be banned from any job that provides access to our nation's vulnerable children!"

Please understand that had this been a gay man, the Hate Groups would have said the same thing about all gay men, and he would be correct. This pervert would be the poster boy for all that is wrong with gays.

There have been many studies and the topic is complicated yet all seem to agree that gays are not molesting children.

The research to date all points to there being no significant relationship between a homosexual lifestyle and child molestation. There appears to be practically no reportage of sexual molestation of girls by lesbian adults, and the adult male who sexually molests young boys is not likely to be homosexual (Groth & Gary, 1982, p. 147).

The American Psychological Association agrees, "Another myth about homosexuality is the mistaken belief that gay men have more of a tendency than heterosexual men to sexually molest children. There is no evidence to suggest that homosexuals molest children."

Hate Groups ignore the FACTS and jump to far reaching conclusions about a minority they know nothing about. They did it with black men raping white woman and Jews in the Middle Ages were accused of murdering Christian babies in ritual sacrifices.

Frankly, This sick SOB should have gotten a death sentence.

The Worst is Over

It is 9am and as you can see we still have power.
The wind is still whipping the trees around but the rain has stopped.
I was up til 3 am watching the worst of the storm and stepping on to the porch now and then to try and capture some film.
I can't see any trees down or debris in the street. Only one trash can being bounced around the ally.
The news from downtown is some flooding and lots of fallen trees but so far we all made it and life will be back on track by the end of today.
We should have some sun shine and clear sky's by this afternoon.
I will post some video later.
Thank you all for your prayers

There Are No Gay Humans - Riiiiiiight

Linda Harvey says there are no gay humans. This woman has made it her life's work to demonize and discredit anything LGBT. She has done everything she can to stop or revoke protections and rights to our population but this is over the top. She is so afraid of something....Hummmmmm... that she wants us to not exist. So much so that she is now claiming that "Nothing gay really exists"

Somebody needs to get out the white coat....you know...the one with the long arms. LOL

Ready for the Storm

Dear Readers,

We are ready! The house is secure thanks to our friend Reece.

We live 30 minutes from the Inner Harbor in Baltimore on a peninsula out in a tributary for the bay and are expected to have Tropical winds for 24 hours starting this afternoon. I'm thinking we will loose power so we have things charged and have car chargers for all phones and one laptop.  Flooding maybe a problem but it has not flooded for the 20 odd years Tami's family has lived here but we are ready just in case.

Everyone is pacing and the animals know something is going on. All of them are staying close to us.
The worst is supposed to be over night so I imagine we will have a bed full of cats and dogs tonight.

I have always loved a good storm. The excitement in the air and the power of Mother Nature reminds me of my place on this 3rd rock from the sun.

I will be filming as much of this as I can. I will post as often as I can as well.

Light a candle and send your prayers for all those who are in this path.

Blessed Be my Friends
BJ

From The Teabagger's Mailbox

From the Teabaggers to joemygod.com to you...

The above image is being gleefully posted on wingnut forums such as Free Republic and Rush Limbaugh's equally fascist brother is tweeting it to all his followers. Nobody is mentioning that Obama's photo was taken while he was a senior majoring in political science at Columbia University. That's the Ivy League, teabaggers. And despite what the photo suggests, at age 22 Rick Perry was not some glory-drenched fighter pilot strafing Vietnamese civilians with napalm. He was a male cheerleader at Texas A&M. Ahem.

Barbarian Flashmob at Bachmanns Clinic - AWESOME

This is great! I loved it when this group "Glittered" the clinic last month but this is better. Enjoy

Missed the Earthquake but got Back for the Hurricane.

We're Back...3 days early.

As most of you know the wife and I returned to my hometown in Ohio to celebrate my Mother's 70th birthday. All went very well. The brothers, kids, and Tom  did a great job of gathering 40+ people together for a surprise party for Mom.

We spent the first few days visiting, hugging, talking, and talking and talking. Then moved on to some dear friends who put us up in their new old house where we heard of the earthquake. Now some said they felt it but we did not. Got a phone call from our wonderful house sitter/ housemate who informed us of the fallen art work, nervous dogs, and power outages in Baltimore which is much closer to the center than northern Ohio.

Next comes the news of how Irene will be slamming into the east coast. Keep in mind we have not seen TV or a computer since we left last Saturday so this was a surprise. After watching closely and seeing the projected path ( One of which will put the center over our house) we decided to return home early much to the dismay of those who we had yet to hug and talk to.
They all took us leaving early very well knowing we have a home and pets as well as a great housemate to keep safe and I want to thank them for their understanding.
I am sorry we missed the great party and dinner 2 of my brothers had planned. I hope they had a great time and toasted/ roasted us.

We made good time getting back home and were greeted with lots of love and licks when we hit the door.
Reece ( housemate) had spent all day doing everything suggested on TV to get ready for the worst. 100 bottles of water, candles and matches in every room as well as supplies in the basement. He stored anything that could fly in the shed and lashed the patio table to the house. He has been amazing.

This morning is beautiful. Sunny and getting hotter by the second. It will give us time to do anything Reece forgot, but I don't think he missed anything. I need to do some shopping and gas up 3 cars, all of which will be a zoo as everyone else will be out doing the same thing.

Our neighbors just cut their vacation short. Ocean City has been evacuated.

Cross your fingers and hope for the best my friends.

Oh! Don't forget.... It's all the Gays fault!

A Mother Considers The Effect Her Post About Her (Possibly) Gay Son Has Had

Get some tissues.  Screen shot 2011-08-19 at 1.07.39 PM
Editor's note: Two days ago a mother wrote
a tumblr post about her six-year-old son's love of Glee's Blaine (Out's March cover boy, Darren Criss) and his relationship with Kurt (Chris Colfer). In the piece, the woman (who prefers to remain anonymous) and her husband pledge their unwavering support for their son, regardless of whether he ends up to be gay or straight or something somewhere else along the spectrum. I was a soggy, teary mess after I read it, and judging by the responses we got, so were most of you. After I posted my reaction to her story, she contacted me on Facebook (oh! the wonders of social media!) and after a few emails, she sent me this follow up in which she begins to consider the incredible (and emotional) effect her tale has had on thousands of people -- and the effect that effect is now having on her. For more from this amazing woman, visit her tumblr here.
It's 2:30am and I'm staring at my computer screen. In about four hours I will need to be up and moving to get my kid to school and myself to work. Instead, I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out what to say a teenaged boy whose asshole parents are making his life a living hell.

My life wasn't always like this.

I wrote what I thought was a cute, innocent, little story about my oldest son and his love of a character on a popular TV show, and how that led to him telling me he wanted to kiss boys and not girls. I naively put it up on the internet, thinking maybe some fans of the show or the actor would think it was cute too.

12 hours later it had been 'liked' and reblogged more than 20,000 times.

24 hours later it was linked to main page of Out.com.

36 hours later Dan Savage is blogging about it.

48 hours later the Trevor Project posts it on Facebook.

It's mind blowing. But more than that, it is heart wrenching. Because with all that exposure come comments and a full inbox.

I can handle the negative comments. People say my kid is way too young to be watching the show. I shouldn't be writing about my kid when he's so young. My jokes are in really poor taste. I can look at all those objectively and agree they have a point (even if I don't always agree with it.)

What I can't handle are 100s of people saying they wish I was their mom. 100s more telling me I deserve awards. And worse, people claiming I am a perfect parent.

I am just not that cool.
I work hard to be a good mom, but I'm not even in the top 25 of the moms I know. I'm that annoyingly loud mom. I've never even attempted to keep a baby book. I ska dance with my husband in the middle of stores when I get bored and make my kids want to die with embarrassment. And that's just the beginning.

But here are all these people online talking about how great I am. And what did I do? I said I unconditionally love my kid. Is that so rare people need to go out of their way to talk about how cool it is? I didn't think so, but now I am beginning to wonder.

Because the part that really breaks my heart are those messages in my inbox. The ones from kids whose parents have evidently failed at the most important part of parenting: Actually loving their kid. The notes are simple and devastating, and almost always end the same way: thanking me for loving my own child.

I write back to every single one, in my office when I should be working, in between checking email, and late at night on the couch when I should have gone to bed hours ago. Writing back isn't an option for me. I need to answer them. I need these kids to know I have read their words. That they deserve better. That they mean something to me.

It isn't all bad. A 14-year-old boy tells me he just came out to his parents this week. I write back to congratulate him and ask how it went. Then I sit with bated breath hoping he'll respond, and he pops back a minute later saying, “It went great!”

But unfortunately, the notes that make me smile and laugh are the minority. Most of them are like the one I am staring at right now. A heart broken kid who just desperately wishes his mom would just stop saying awful things to him. A kid who wishes his mom still loved him.

I'll figure out something to say to him, but I know it will not enough.

I want to live in a world where that silly little story I wrote is not special, but just an anecdote about a little boy and his love of a boy in a blazer.

Trip Back Home

My Mom is turning 70 on the 22nd and the wife, father-in-law, and I are going to Ohio to celebrate.
It has taken some planning and lots of saving to return to my hometown for a week.
Today we start packing. The list of things to do has grown shorter but the last minute stuff still awaits.
I am looking forward to seeing my family and my 2 new grandchildren. I am also looking forward to spending time with my friends at the studio. I have missed them very much.
I get to show my father-in-law around our small town where he will get to see and meet several galleries and the owners as well as an afternoon at the Football Hall-O-Fame.

As a news junky, the hardest part of the trip will be not checking my blog list. I am sure to go in to withdrawls from this. Being the computer geek that she is, my lovely bride will be taking a netbook and a laptop just in case I can't stand it anymore. LOL

Our housemate, Reece, will be holding down the fort and taking care of the dogs and cats  while we are gone. I think he will have his job cut out for him because my dog, Odo, is a little needy and hates it when I leave. Thus the need for a laptop with Skype. LOL

So, I have to get my butt in gear and finish the endless list of stuff to do as well as try not to get bitchy.

See you all in a week. ( Unless there is some major breaking news... I know honey.... no blogging on vacation.....Right)

Jon Stewert does it Again - Thanks Jon

NOM's marriage pledge includes a 'witch-hunt' against the gay community

by: Alvin McEwen

crossposted on Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters
While there is a lot of noise being made over the National Organization for Marriage's pledge to supposedly "protect marriage," a passage in that pledge is escaping some much deserved scrutiny. Amongst other things, those presidential candidates who signed the pledge, should they get elected to the presidency, has promised to:

Appoint a presidential commission to investigate harassment of traditional marriage supporters.

In the world of the jaded gay community who has reputedly seen it all from the religious right, even this sentence should raise alarms.

First of all, who would be on this committee? Maggie Gallagher, Brian Brown? Or how about Peter Sprigg or Tony Perkins? Or even worse, Matt Barber? I would say Peter LaBarbera but even I'm not that crazy.

And just what would they investigate or rather how would they investigate certain matters? Remember during the Clinton Administration, how investigations of Whitewater "magically" pivoted to other matters having absolutely nothing to do with legal matters but more about Clinton's personal life?

Whose to say that this "commission" wouldn't turn into a fishing expedition determined to undermine and destroy pro-gay organizations? And I haven't even mention bloggers. Imagine being called before a committee and forced to give personal testimony about some false claim (which will no doubt be played up heavily by Fox News, conservative bloggers, and religious right groups) simply because you published a fact as to how religious right groups lie. And knowing the folks who suggested the committee in the first place, it certainly isn't a farfetched notion.

No doubt, a list of pro-gay organizations and bloggers to be "investigated" is already forming in the minds of NOM and its allies.

The gay community would do well for itself to lose its jaded pose and get itself into the game of the 2012 election. We already seem to have a huge target on our back this election cycle - as unfortunately we always do every election cycle - so it seems to me that the best thing to do is to stop griping about being targets and start establishing a few targets ourselves.

Uh oh. Now maybe I will be investigated for saying that.
Note - To all of you religious right folks reading the Blend (and you know who you are), I meant targets in a figurative sense. Don't start comparing me to Sarah Palin PLEASE!

"Mommy, they are just like me.” - Very Sweet

“Mommy, they are just like me.”
My oldest son is six years old and in love for the first time. He is in love with Blaine from Glee.
For those who don’t know Blaine is a boy…a gay boy, the boyfriend of one of the main characters, Kurt.
This isn’t a ‘he thinks Blaine is really cool’ kind of love. It is a mooning at a picture of Blaine’s face for a half hour followed by a wistful “He’s so pretty” kind of love.
He loves the episode where two boys kiss. My son will call people in from other parts of the house to make sure they don’t miss his ‘favorite part.’ He’s been known to rewind it and watch it over again…and force other to, as well, if he doesn’t think people have been paying enough attention.
This infatuation doesn’t bother me or his father. We live in a very hip-liberal neighborhood, many of our friends are gay, and idea of having a gay son isn’t something that bothers either of us. Our son is going to be who he is, and it is our job to love him. End of story.
He is also six. Six year olds get obsessed with all kinds of things. This might not mean anything at all. We always joke that he’s either gay, or we have the best blackmail material in the history of mankind when he’s a 16 year old straight boy. (Take that naked bath time pictures!)
Then the other day we were traveling across the state listening to the Warblers album (of course), and in the middle of Candles, my son pipes up from the back seat.
“Mommy, Kurt and Blaine are boyfriends.”
“Yes, they are,” I affirm.
“They don’t like kissing girls. They just kiss boys.”
“That’s true.”
“Mommy, they are just like me.”
“That’s great, baby. You know I love you no matter what?”
“I know…” I could hear him rolling his eyes at me.
When we got home I recapped this conversation to his Dad, and we stood simply looking into each other’s eyes for a moment. Then we smiled.
“So if at 16 he wants to make a big announcement at the dinner table, we can say ‘You told us when you were six. Pass the carrots’ and he’ll be disappointed we stole his big dramatic moment,” my husband says with a laugh and hugs me.
Only time will tell if my son is gay, but if he is I am glad he’s mine. I am glad he has been born into our family. A family full of people who will love and accept him. People who will never want him to change. With parents who will look forward to dancing at his wedding.
And I have to admit, Blaine would be a really cute son-in-law.

Santorum "Frothy Mix" on How Bad Equal Marriage is ....Again

"Letting the family break down and in fact encouraging it and inciting more breakdown through this whole redefinition of marriage debate, and not supporting strong nuclear families and not supporting and standing up for the dignity of human life. Those lead to a society that’s broken. [snip] And you can’t say that we’re gonna take morality out of the public square, morality out of our schools, God out of our schools, and then expect people to behave decently in a country that requires, capitalism requires some strong modicum of moral consciousness if it’s gonna be successful."

Bachmann Linked To Uganda's Pastor Martin "Kill The Gays" Ssempa

Just out from joemygod.com come this piece of interesting info..
Yet another reason this woman should NOT be President of anything!

The Atlantic reports that Peter Waldron, the campaign aide who steered Michele Bachmann to her first place finish in Iowa, has quite the shady past, including an arrest for terrorism in Uganda where he boasts a friendship with Pastor Martin Ssempa. Ssempa, as most of you probably know, vigorously backed Uganda's proposed death penalty for homosexuality.
The evangelical organizer who helped Michele Bachmann win the Ames Straw Poll in Iowa Saturday was previously charged with terrorism in Uganda after being arrested for possession of assault rifles and ammunition in February 2006, just days before Uganda's first multi-party elections in 20 years. Peter E. Waldron spent 37 days in the Luriza Prison outside Kampala, where he says he was tortured, after being arrested along with six Congolese and Ugandan nationals for the weapons, which were described variously in news reports as having been found in his bedroom or a closet in his home. The charges, which could have led to life in prison, were dropped in March 2006 after a pressure campaign by Waldron's friends and colleagues and what Waldron says was the intervention of the Bush administration.
Warren Throckmorton provides the link to Waldron's relationship with Ssempa.
The American doctor also says he is a friend of the first family and a friend of Pastor Martin Sempa, according to the article, written by one Stuart Price. [snip] "They embrace Americans here,” he said enthusiastically. Indeed, as we sat together, a steady stream of young admirers who had seen Waldron in church came up to greet him. They made complicated handshakes, the way Ugandans do, and Waldron boasted to me that he had met privately with President Museveni and his born-again wife.” “It struck me that, for many Americans of faith, Uganda – a country where homosexuality and abortion are outlawed, where politicians freely mix church and state, and where outward displays of religious devotion are the norm – represents a kind of haven.” Waldron is said to have talked to several high-ranking government officials on arrest including some powerful ministers.
Just so we're clear here, Rep. Michele Bachmann, a leading Republican candidate for the presidency of the United States, has a top-ranking employee who was arrested for allegedly smuggling assault weapons to a foreign regime that is presently working to legalize the executions of gay people. Everybody got that?

Anne Hathaway Paparazzi Rap - She is so Cute

We’re supposed to respect Phillip Hinkle and his family after he spent years attacking ours?

I feel the same way.

Posted byTimothy Beauchamp

I can't seem to get the story about the anti-gay Indiana legislator, Phillip Hinkle, and his hypocritical gay scandal out of my head. It isn't because this is the first time this sort of thing has happened, of course. There is no need to count the number of times an anti-gay conservative legislator has been caught weakly disguising his compartmentalized sexual orientation by getting busted having a wide stance. The examples of hypocritical projection and homophobia of gay / anti-gay conservatives have become legion. In fact, it is because I'm weary of hearing from concern trolls, or the defenders of these hypocrites, that we need to "respect the privacy of the family." Hinkle's attorney, Peter Nugent, implored everyone to leave Hinkle and his family alone.
Wednesday, Nugent faxed this "official statement":

"Representative Hinkle is aware of the inquiries by The Indianapolis Star and we are investigating the matter at this time. We request that everyone respect the privacy of the family at this time."
First of all the adage, "Those who live in glass houses should not be throwing stones," applies. Secondly, if the family was aware of Mr. Hinkle's predilections they should have begged him to not become a Republican public figure who crafts hateful, conservative, anti-gay policies for others. Had he been a progressive then I would have no problem whatsoever with him or his family and would be happy to respect their supposed privacy.

If his family is not culpable in knowing his tendency to have sexual relations with young men while presenting himself as a bastion of conservative anti-gay "family values," I do feel sorry they are having to find out in this horrible way, but imagine how his gay constituents and their families feel? I'm sure they haven't deserved the victimization of having a representative who applies second class citizenship to them in order to camouflage his secretive gay liaisons. Like so many of his brethren, Hinkle has projected the mirage of a red blooded conservative heterosexual image in his twisted attempt to define himself as the conservative's dogmatic ideal, and very rare, nuclear stereotypical all American family.

Until our gay families receive the same rights as Phillip Hinkle's by having our marriages recognized by our government then I will not be following any exhortation to "respect his or his family's privacy."

Catholic Church Out Another $1.3 Million for Sex Abuse

Here is where your weekly tithe is going.

Found at joemygod.com

The Catholic Diocese of Trenton, New Jersey has agreed to pay a $1M settlement to five men who were molested by the same priest while they were altar boys.

The settlements, announced today, bring to $1.3 million the amount the diocese has paid to alleged abuse victims of the Rev. Ronald Becker. Becker was removed from the ministry in 2002. He has since died. Becker molested the five boys at Incarnation parish in Ewing hundreds of times between 1972 and 1984, in spans that ranged from six months to four years, according to Mitchell Garabedian, the Boston-based lawyer who represented the men. The abuse occurred in the church, the rectory and on trips.

To Followers and an Update from Indiana

This morning I started my day to this comment on my post about the tragedy in Indiana.

An LGBTQ blogger at bilerico.com posted a claim that Indiana was using DOMA to refuse to release Christina's body to her partner. His claim is spreading around the nation and it appears to have NO BASIS IN TRUTH. He has posted a weak update (rather than a retraction), but people are going ballistic and contacting media, the state of Indiana, etc. It's despicable that Bil Browning has taken advantage of a terrible tragedy to promote unfounded rumors from anonymous sources to further his own agenda. His purely selfish, offensive manipulation of the facts of the situation should be exposed in every article that has since picked up his distortion. Demand that he put the truth at the TOP of his blog post and apologize for his action and the resulting turmoil he has introduced into the already shattered lives of Christina's family and community. Please do what you can to stop this misinformation from spreading further. And shame on you, BJ, for blindly propagating this mess.

There are several points I need to make about this in defence of all parties.

First, Bil Browning of Bilerico.com is a reputable and reliable site for up to date news about my LGBT community. I read over a dozen different sites plus links to gather news and interesting commentary for my blog which I started in order to share news with family and friends and Bilerico has been a valuable resource. I was simply cross posting what I thought was necessary to share.

Next, It is possable that someone jumped the gun on this issue. It happens now and then due to news and blogger compitition to be the first to report a story. Frankly, the current laws in Indiana are such that Christian's body would not be released to her partner and that could be why the story broke before all the facts were in.

I read the updates late last night. The fact is that Christian's Aunt is next of kin and she is the one who is helping to make arrangements with Christian's partner who is still in the hospital.
The laws in Indiana are a big part of the problem. Had this been a str8 couple, it would not have been an issue.

While I am sorry that I did not do more research before posting from a reputable source and it has caused some good people more pain, I am not sorry that the LGBT population jumped to defend Christina and her partner. I am not sorry that Indiana was flooded with calls and emails about their unconstitutional laws. I hope this is a wake up call to the fine folks of Indiana to change their hearts and minds about the suffering caused by their hateful laws.

Indy Coroner Won't Release Body to Lesbian's Partner

More damage and BS because of DOMA and hate.

Filed By Bil Browning at Bilerico.com
Christina_Alisha.jpg
When a stage collapsed during the Indiana State Fair over the weekend, Christina Santiago, manager of programming for the Lesbian Community Care Project at Chicago's Howard Brown Health Center, was one of the casualties. Santiago's partner, Alisha Brennon, was also injured in the tragedy.

The Marion County coroner's office is refusing to release Santiago's body to her partner; the office cited the Defense of Marriage Act as the reason why they've turned down Brennon's request to pick up her loved one's remains. DOMA allows states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.

Indiana has its own version of DOMA that outlaws same-sex marriage. Since Indiana law requires the next-of-kin to pick up Santiago's body, but the state won't recognize Brennon as the surviving spouse, Santiago's body is still laying in the morgue awaiting a solution. It's unclear whether or not Santiago has other family available to claim her corpse and take it home for burial.

Legislation to repeal DOMA has been introduced in both chambers of Congress. The Indiana legislature passed a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages and civil unions earlier this year; the amendment will have to pass a separately elected session of the legislature before being sent to the ballot for Hoosiers to vote on. Backers of the bill also tried to pass legislation that would have prevented state government from providing domestic partner benefits to LGBT employees and killed anti-bullying legislation introduced after a 15 year old boy killed himself after being being continuously subjected to anti-gay bullying.

The coroner's office didn't respond to multiple requests for comment on this story. They did confirm that Santiago's body has not been claimed yet.

UPDATE: A fellow reporter working on the story in Indianapolis sends over this information: "Christina's aunt is working with her partner to pick up the body and finalize funeral arrangements. Christina's partner is still hospitalized."

Deadbeat dad Congressman puts down same-sex households

Got this gem from Alvin McEwen at Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters

Sorry but this one is too good to ignore.

According to ThinkProgress, Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) had some negative things to say about same-sex households. Apparently during a recent town hall meeting in Crystal Lake, IL, Walsh retreaded the same religious right junk about children "having a right to a home with a mother and a father:

Walsh is a supporter of traditional marriage between a man and a woman for economic reasons. He also stated that studies have shown it is more beneficial for a child to be raised in a home where a mother and father are present rather than in same-sex households. The congressman, however, said he was open to further information and research that might disprove that.

How nice it is for Walsh to give us the caveat of "he might change his mind if further research disproved his opinion." I would suggest that he get to reading because there is a plethora of information out there which contradicts his beliefs on same-sex households.

But it would be nicer if Walsh wasn't late with his child support payments. You all will remember that Walsh is the same Congressman who, in a video (starting at 2:30), said that he owed it to his children not to vote to raise the debt ceiling. At the same time, however, he was being sued by his ex-wife for $117,437 in child support payments for his three children.

Just in case you are wondering about Walsh's monetary situation, he loaned his own campaign $35,000 and paying himself back $14,200 for the loans.

Mr. Walsh, in this case, silence is definitely golden. Maybe it would have been better if you had pretended not to hear the question. Anything would have been much better than making a hypocritical ass of yourself.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to PAY YOUR DAMN CHILD SUPPORT before you start creating caste systems against loving families simply because they may contain parents of the same-sex.

One more thing: National Organization for Marriage, I absolutely DARE you to write a blog post on Walsh's comments. Please, please, please do it.

INDIANA: Prominent Lesbian Among Those Killed At State Fair Stage Collapse

This morning at joemygod.com I see this news.

A well-known Chicago area lesbian was among the five people killed yesterday when high winds caused the collapse of the stage at the Indiana state fair. Christina Santiago was the programming manager for the Lesbian Community Care Project at Chicago's Howard Brown Health Center. An ardent country music fan, Santiago and her partner were near the stage to hear the Grammy-winning duo Sugarland. The announcer had just advised the crowd on evacuation procedures when the tragedy struck. In addition to those killed, dozens were reported injured.

WARNING: This video may be upsetting.

I have a habit of reading the comments at joemygod.com. Those who post comments are quick to point out and add information as well as great commentary of their own. This one was sent in  only as a guest but they said everything I was going to.

The gay-related aspects of this tragic story:

- If there was negligence here, Ms. Santiago's partner won't be able to sue over the death of Ms. Santiago.

- If Ms. Santiago left any money to her partner, it will be taxed, in contrast to the straight widows and widowers who will receive their deceased spouses' assets tax free.

- Given the apocalyptic visuals of this event, you can be absolutely certain that at least some prominent Christian will assert either that this is God's punishment generally or that it is punishment for the homosexual sins of that Indiana state legislator caught soliciting.

- You can be absolutely certain that Westboro will picket Ms. Santiago's funeral as well as the funerals of the other deceased.

From what I have been able to find out, Ms. Santiago's partner was seriously injured and is hospitalized. My prayers go out to you both.

Should Rep. Phillip Hinkle Resign and Why? - Comments by BJ

Rep. Phillip Hinkle has been caught cheating on his wife. He has been caught trying to cheat on his wife with a very young man. His wife tried to pay off the young man to keep him quiet so I am guessing she knew of his orientation.

Now the folks he works with wants him to step down after serving 6 terms.
The LGBT population has not called for his head on a plate....yet. We may not.

The way I see it, this man is either Bisexual or Gay. He has been forced to live a life of quiet desperation because of our nations distrust and misinformation of anything LGBT. He grew up, got married, had kids, and found he did well in politics just as expected.  At some point he came out to his wife who, being the good wife, tolerated his desire for male companionship now and then. This is not an unusual scenario for a man of his generation.

The problem is that while him and his wife are living a private lie, they are both continuing to  misinform their community and lawmakers about LGBT folks. He has helped to push forward laws that hurt LGBT people and their families and keep them as second class citizens.

So why is it news that he got caught? It is not like other politicians haven't fooled around on the side, some getting caught. They don't seem to make the news as often. Is it because he was caught with a man? That part is surly in the news but seems to be almost a footnote in most reports. Why are his coworkers asking him to step down? Are they embarrassed or ashamed of working with a closet case, the fact that he worked so hard to keep others like himself down, or maybe they just don't care to be lied to? Why has the LGBT population not jumped on this?

Lots of questions. I may have a few answers.

It is news because he got caught. Had it been an 18 year old female, it still would have been news just under reported.
Are his coworkers embarrassed? Maybe. Shocked? Maybe. Do not want to be implicated? Definite maybe. Come on...do you really believe that this guy has worked all this time with friends and has not been discovered, caught, or come out to anyone? I am willing to bet my Gay dollars that someone knew and now that his secret is out they want to put some distance between him and them.

As for the LGBT's, well...we are just going to add him to the ever growing list of self hating gay men that preach one thing and do another. These men started out in the closet like us. They hid from society and themselves much like us. They did what was to be expected of men by getting married and raising a family. Our Nation was not ready for open gays.
To vent some of the frustration of living a lie they became the very thing that perpetuates the problem.  They tell everyone how bad gay people are. They feed the lies that keep us down because they hate themselves and don't want us happy while they must continue to breath moth balls. They have created a catch 22 for themselves.

The LGBT population holds that those who protest often and loud are most likely self hating LGBT's themselves and we just added one more name to the list of proof.

Should Rep. Phillip Hinkle  step down? Yes. He needs to get some much needed counseling from a REAL doctor, NOT try to "pray away the gay". He needs to thank his wife for sticking by him then let her go to find a life free from his self hate. He needs to get on with his life as an open and honest person. He needs to make amends to his fellow LGBT's for making life hard for them.
Maybe he will meet a man more his own age and find the happiness he should have had all along.
But then we will never know because happy LGBT's are not news.

Keep an Eye on the Liers ! Call Them Out !

There is a great piece at Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters by Alvin McEwen.

It has to do with the FACT that the Hate Groups have distorted studies and twisted their findings to meet their needs and are often false.
The piece gives examples of the falsehoods, who, what, when, where and....we all know why.

These people have no interest in anything but keeping LGBT people as second class citizens of our own country.

They have NO business being used for "balance" in an interview. They are NOT experts in anything but how to stop equality.

They should NOT be tax exempt! I don't think they should be getting support from our government to spread lies.

They should NOT be testifying about anything.

Catholic 'Moral Authority' in IL: Abuse Victim Gets $6.3 million

What's new in the Catholic Church.......
Found at Bilerico Project....Filed By Waymon Hudson | August 10, 2011

The Catholic Church in Illinois just can't keep out of the news lately... cv_abuse_childbypriest_1006.jpgAnd none of it is good.
The Diocese of Belleville has finally paid the jury-awarded judgement to a man who was sexually abused as a child by a priest for over five years at St. Theresa's Parish in Salem, Illinois. The payment comes more than three years after the man won five million dollars from the court's verdict (the extra $1.3 million is for interest accrued in the three years). The jury's decision for damages was based not only on the repeated sexual abuse, but on the diocese's decision to hide the priest's actions and move him around parishes when complaints arose.

This latest bit of news comes alongside the continuing battle between the church's Catholic Charities adoption services and the state over the new Illinois civil union law. At the heart of the issue is the church's desire to take $30 million in public funds, yet discriminate against same-sex couples in the foster and adoption services they provide. Perhaps they wouldn't need all those millions in tax payer dollars if they didn't have to pay out such huge settlements to make amends for the church's long-history of immoral abuse and its cover-up.

And perhaps the church shouldn't be the ones deciding with 'moral authority' who is fit to be around children. It seems their track record on that issue speaks for itself.

Another Unfair Deportation - Obama Needs to Wake UP !

There are thousands of LGBT couples like this one. Some are legally married and some are not. This couple has been for years and should NOT have to suffer something like this.
The immigration department was told they could use discretion to determine each case and they have allowed other LGBT couples stay together only after waiting until the last minute. The stress on the couples and their families has to be horrible and is unnecessary. The immigration department has the power to make a decision before dragging this out and causing so much pain and anguish and Obama has the power to stop the deportation and separation of LEGALLY MARRIED couples.

It is so sad that my life time full of accomplishments, skills, and just being human can be all brushed aside because of one thing that does not affect anyone. I am so tired of being judged on my orientation before everything else.

Dinosaurs Will Send Your Kid To Hell

This is a great example of the ignorance born from those who CHOOSE to hide in one book instead of thinking for themselves and exploring all the other books in the library.
It is this kind of cult thinking that has held history hostage and continues to block the human race from moving toward world peace.
If this was not real, it would be funny.

Curtis Killorn paints dead trees in the mountains of Colorado - Awesome

Curtis Killorn paints dead trees in the mountains of Colorado vivid colors as public art installations. The results are stunning. He says, “Nature is already so beautiful and full of such depth and grace… and it is NOT my intention to mask or enhance it in any way. Much in the way that we paint each other’s skin out in the desert, the intention is to bring out the beauty which is already there.”

Log Cabin (Gay) Republicians Denounce Ann Coulter

The Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) are one of those oddities of the left that I spoke about in "Somewhere in the Extreme Left".
They are the first group to really put themselves out there for ridicule by the LGBT population in that Gay and Republican don't mix.
I have to say that the older I get the more conservative I have become on some issues but not enough the switch teams.
The LRC has it's place and has kept a rather low profile while it does what it does. I have to say that they are still gay , like gays, and are for gays unlike GOProud.
Yesterday the LRC gave this statement;

"Ann Coulter is not a serious part of the conservative movement -- her positions are a throwback and do more harm than anything else. Her remarks endorsing the widely outdated and profoundly harmful idea of 'reparative therapy,' alleging that one can 'pray the gay away,' are not only demeaning to gays and lesbians, but are offensive to all people of faith. While her position on this matter is off base, it is exacerbated by her claim that the armed forces should bring back 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,' a failed policy which impedes military readiness. Servicemembers who put their lives on the line deserve respect, not such clownish behavior."
-- Clarke Cooper, Executive Director of the Log Cabin Republicans, a gay conservative group, in a press release entitled "Commedienne" Ann Coulter" regarding her appointment as "Honorary Chair" of the advisory board of GOProud, a rival gay conservative group.

Sign the Petition to get Congress to call out false anti-gay testimony

crossposted on Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters

In June of this year during a Congressional hearing on the Defense of Marriage Act, Sen. Al Franken exposed Focus on the Family’s Tom Minnery's attempt to inaccurately cite a study to defame same-sex households.

Earlier this year during another Congressional hearing on DOMA, National Organization for Marriage’s Maggie Gallagher committed the same distortion – i.e. inaccurately citing a study to defame same-sex households. Gallagher’s group (NOM) has also been called out twice by the Pulitzer Prize winning site Politifact for inaccurate negative statements it has made about the gay community.

The Family Research Council was declared as an official anti-gay hate group last year by the Southern Poverty Law Center for its tendency to spread propaganda about the gay community such as gays molest children at a high level and same-sex households harm children.

However, the head of the Family Research Council - Tony Perkins - is frequently called as a Congressional witness on many occasions from discussing issues of gay equality to the selection of Supreme Court judges.

In addition, there are at least 11 incidents of legitimate researchers and physicians complaining that morality groups such as Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council have specifically and intentionally distorted their work to demonize the gay community.

While there is a need for levity and a desire for all sides of issues involving the gay community to be heard, the constant calling upon of these “morality groups” for Congressional testimony in spite of their irregularities mentioned does present a problem in terms resolving the issues of the gay community in a fair manner.

Therefore I have created a petition on Change.org asking that if ever these groups are called before Congress again, their testimony be given the highest level of scrutiny because said testimony could fraudulent.
To sign the petition (and I highly advise folks to do so), go here.

I decided to forgo a press release and let what I've written speak for itself. But allow me to elucidate further. Last year, the Southern Poverty Law Center broke down the lies of the religious right and how they demonize the gay community. Before SPLC's expose, the last time there was a thorough article about the religious right was in 1999 by Rolling Stone magazine. Both exposes (Rolling Stone's and SPLC's) featured almost the same cast of characters and the same accusations of lies. That means that in over 10 years time, the religious right has not altered the lies it tells about the gay community. And this is simply because the gay community has not confronted these so-called morality groups on the level that we should. The purpose of this petition is to garner attention and start a much needed confrontation with religious right groups. Their lies permeate so many aspects of our lives, from our right to marry, to our right to raise families, to our right to freely live with dignity and self-esteem.
