Last night David Letterman made some cracks about Michele Bachmann which included jabs at Ladybird: "And if you're a homosexual, her husband will take care of ya. He's got a thing, a camp or a clinic or something. And if you're a homosexual and you feel you're in the need of some special treatment or counseling, he'll take care of you." Towleroad reports that Letterman's bit about Mr. Bachmann have been deleted from the web archive of the show. YouTube's still got it, for now.

Some of you asked for more Oskar videos, so here we go..... I took this video the day after we adopted him. Since he is completely blind (born without formed eyeballs) we gave him some balls with bells inside. As you can tell, he can "see" them by using his ears! He is such a happy and inspiring cat -- we are blessed to have him with us.

A Poem in Response to "The Reason for the Season?"

Twas 2 months before Solstice and all through the store

Clerks were all scurrying to sell more, more, and MORE!

Halls are all decked out in gold, red, and green while

Parents remind children not to be mean.

Samhains just over, Thanksgiving is near,

 The “Reason for the Season” the Christians make clear.

The fighting’s begun throughout the land

 Over what religion this season demands

We have Solstice, Chanukah, Kwanzaa and then

 Christmas, New Years, sometimes Ramadan is in.

Some are religious and some they are not.

 Sorry if some I might have forgot.

Some celebrate the birth of God’s son,  

Others welcome rebirth of the warm Sun.

Many light candles to count out the days

Of harvest or safe family. Prayers said so many ways.

For most of our history here in the US

Christians have told us they are the best.

For those of us who are not of their faith

Were resigned to be quiet and get out of their way.

They hogged all the glory throughout my childhood,

 Told us of no others, that was not good.

Now children know that other faiths are here

 And they all hold on to their beliefs just as dear.

So we’re teaching diversity and inclusiveness

Some Christians think the whole thing is a mess.

While I sit here safe from winters cold nip

I think some Christians need to get a grip

For the real reason for this time of year

Is for sharing and caring for all, far and near.

See, we are all humans on this tiny rock

And like it or not the clock goes tic tock

Time is too short and fighting’s not good

All over some books claiming they’re the true word?

The real truth in each heart is love and forgiving,

Hope and joy to this seasons beginning.

So be kind to your neighbor and strangers you meet

Be understanding of differences each time you greet.

Reason for the Season?

A season is a division of the year, marked by changes in weather, ecology, and hours of daylight.

The winter season is upon us and we are getting geared up for several holidays.
Most holidays have their roots in religions from around the world. This year does not have as many as some as some holiday dates change from year to year. This years holidays from the 21 to the 28th are:

Dec 21	First Day of Chanukah
Dec 22	December Solstice
Dec 23	Presidents' Day (IN)
Dec 24	Christmas Eve
Dec 25	Christmas Day
Dec 26	Kwanzaa (until Jan 1)
Dec 26	'Christmas Day' observed
Dec 28	Last day of Chanukah

As you can see there is a holiday for each day with the oldest celebration on the Winter Solstice. This dates back to The Neolithic Age, Era, or Period, or New Stone Age, was a period in the development of human technology, beginning about 9500 BC.

The second oldest celebrations began around 1312 BC with the Jewish Exodus from Egypt.

Christianity began as a Jewish sect in the mid-1st century. The prominence of Christmas Day increased gradually after Charlemagne was crowned Emperor on Christmas Day in 800. King Edmund the Martyr was anointed on Christmas in 855 and King William I of England was crowned on Christmas Day 1066.

The secular holidays are far younger than the religious ones. Yes Kwanzaa is secular.

Kwanzaa is a week long celebration held in the United States honoring universal African-American heritage and culture, observed from December 26 to January 1 each year. It features activities such as lighting a candle holder with seven candles^[1] and culminates in a feast and gift giving. It was created by Maulana Karenga and was first celebrated in 1966–1967.

The reason for this history lesson is 2 fold. First, a dear christian friend was telling me about making a sign for her lawn that reads. "Jesus is the Reason for the Season". Second because of an email I received. It contained a poem I found offensive;

Twas the month before Christmas

When all through our land,

Not a Christian was praying

Nor taking a stand.

See the PC Police had taken away

The reason for Christmas - no one could say.

The children were told by their schools not to sing

About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.

It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say

December 25th is just a ' Holiday'.

Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit

Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!

Something was changing, something quite odd!

Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa

In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.

As Targets were hanging their trees upside down

At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.

At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears

You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.

Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty

Are words that were used to intimidate me.

Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen

On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton!

At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter

To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.

And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith

Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace

The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded

The reason for the season, stopped before it started.

So as you celebrate 'Winter Break' under your 'Dream Tree'

Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.

Choose your words carefully, choose what you say

Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS,

not Happy Holiday!

Please, all Christians join together and

wish everyone you meet

Christ is The Reason' for the Christ-mas Season!

While my friend now understands why many will find her sign offensive the other dear friend falls into the category of those who do not want to understand or show respect to other faiths. "Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty" do intimidate them.

Those of us who are inclusive do not use the term to intimidate. It is the insecurities and lack understanding about the diversity of our world and country that make them feel intimidated.

My friend will be making a sign the says "Merry Christmas" in celebration of her faith while I will be making a sign that will say" Happy Solstice" to celebrate mine.

The winter season offers a chance to share and learn about different people and cultures all wrapped up in the spirit of giving.

That is the reason for the season.

BYU newspaper letter compares gay parents to serial killers - As vile as this is, a community response and a public pushback is necessary. There are some folks who have a hateful opinion of our families. We need to make clear that while respect somone's freedom of speech, if that person calls us out with lies and smears, we will answer back with truth and dignity.

21 Years In Prison For Brandon McInerney

Teenage murderer Brandon McInerny has been sentenced to 21 years in prison in a plea agreement for the shooting of openly gay classmate Larry King.

Brandon McInerney, who was 14 when he pulled a gun out of his backpack and shot Larry King twice in the head in 2008, has already served nearly four years in jail and would be released by the time he is 38, under terms of the deal. "Larry had a complicated life, but he did not deserve to be murdered," the youth's father,Greg King, said after a court hearing Monday afternoon. McInerney’s first trial ended with jurors split between convicting him of voluntary manslaughter and first-degree murder. Several of the jurors have since spoken in favor of a plea bargain, in order to avoid a second trial. Prosecutors, in initially deciding to try McInerney a second time, had already dropped a key allegation that the shooting was motivated by a hatred of homosexuals, an accusation that several jurors in the original trial said they did not believe.

That is fair I guess. There were many things to take into consideration. At least it is over now. Maybe Larry King can be at rest.

This is a sad story. LGBT people are attacked, robbed, vandalized, shot, and beaten to death EVERY DAY due, in a large part, to the people who continue to preach and teach lies to their kids. 
In part to the hate rants from unqualified "Professionals" over the airwaves and cable stations that get away with slander and defamation of a minority while hiding behind their chosen religion. If they spoke like that about ANY OTHER MINORITY, they would be shut down.

How about those quacks that take advantage of those who are depressed and confused by taking their money AND GOVERNMENT money to  "Cure" them.
The news media that continues to use these zealots are "Authorities" for "Balance" on any LGBT issues.

Where is your voice?
We know who is causing it and we are fighting them with all we have but where is the voices of those who just stand and watch.

Where are the churches that are inclusive? The Good people of faith need to speak up and make sure people know the difference between the two. The Bad ones use their holy books as weapons against others.
Where are the hoards of kids in the hallways when bullying is going on. Why is only when a kid kills himself do we hear from their friends about the amount of bullying they saw. Did they do anything! Why not! You were their friend? Jump in, get a teacher, start screaming, DO SOMETHING!

Where are the teachers? I was  a teacher for 10 years in every kind of school and classroom setting and it takes a BAD teacher to ignore or not notice bullying in the classroom or in the hall.  Shame on EVERY teacher that lets ANY bullying slide. It does not matter what it's about. Your JOB is to STOP the bully and make your room a safe place for EVERY child. Not just some.

Vote NO on DOMA repeal bill

I am writing to urge you to oppose Sen. Feinstein's bill to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), recently approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee (S.598).
If enacted, this bill would jeopardize the marriage laws of 44 states, removing the only federal law that protects the rights of states to marriage as the union of a husband and wife.
Voters in 31 states have had the chance to vote on marriage. And 31 times in a row, they have rejected same-sex marriage. Forcing same-sex marriage when the American people have resoundingly and repeatedly said no is bad policy and bad politics.
I have seen reports indicating that, lacking votes to pass it outright, this bill may be attached to the 2012 Defense Authorization bill. This is inexcusable, and the American people deserve better than redefining marriage under cover of darkness. If the bill can't stand on its own, it shouldn't be enacted. Don't try to slide it through under the radar attached to a "must-pass" piece of legislation. It's no wonder the American people are so fed up with Washington.
Don't let a handful of states force same-sex marriage on the entire nation. Support DOMA to protect the voice of the people on marriage.

This is outrageous. Oh my God, watch this video, you'll see in the first seconds all you need to see. The cop walks up to a line of students just siting down on the ground, having a sit-in basically, and he pepper-sprays them, one by one, in the face at point blank range.

I'm sorry, this has gone too far. This has happened in police department after police department, and it has gone too far. Our police look like the goons in Russia and China. Please watch this video and send it to everyone you know. This has gone too far.
