More GOP Family Values

Wisconsin GOP Gov. Scott Walker has ordered the state to stop defending a 2009 law granting gay couples the right to visit each other in the hospital and make end-of-life decisions. The anti-gay group Wisconsin Family Action is suing the state to overturn the law.

Gov. Walker wants to take away the legal right to visit and make life and death decisions for gay couples.
This does not do ANYTHING but hurt gay families.
It does not create jobs or save money or touch anyone's life except the couple involved.

It is just plain heartless.

This is another example of the GOP/GOD extremist that want to take us back to the 50's.
I WILL NOT BE PUSHED BACK IN THE CLOSET ! YOU WILL HAVE TO PHYSICALLY RESTRAIN ME TO KEEP ME FROM MY WIFE !! THERE WILL BE A FIGHT !

Excellent moment of clarity in Minnesota's gay marriage debate

The video is great. I saw it live this afternoon and almost cried.

Thanks for the pep talk Alvin McEwen

Cross Post from Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters by Alvin McEwen

As we all know, the Minnesota Senate today approved a 2012 statewide vote to ban gay marriage. The bill will go back to House where it will probably pass and by law, Governor Marc Dayton - who opposes it - can't veto it.

No doubt the National Organization for Marriage will gloat about Minnesota is closer to supposedly "protecting marriage." Meanwhile the lgbt community will get angry and disgusted yet again about having our relationships put under a microscope and anticipating being made the victims lying brochures, flyers, and commercials implying about how we want to recruit children - courtesy of NOM - yet again.

But something interesting happened today during the Senate hearing which bears repeating. The above video is gay Senator Scott Dibble talking about how the amendment will harm him and his husband.

Believe it or not, Dibble's speech also reminds me of one my favorite stories from the Bible.

The Israelites had been the victims of a drought for several years. Finally God told the prophet Elijah that the rain would come. So on the day the rain was supposed to come, Elijah sent his servant to look for a rain cloud. Six times the servant looked and saw nothing.

But the seventh time, he saw only one cloud and it was the size of a man's hand. When Elijah found this out, he knew that the rain would come. And a mighty rain did come, ending the drought.

The point is this - let's not get so caught up on the big things that we fail to see the little things which demonstrate how much the lgbt community is progressing.

I don't recall any moments like Dibble's speech in 2003 when this "we have to stop gay marriage" nonsense officially began. And I certainly don't remember any time during the 80s or 90s that a gay Senator - state or national - had the gumption to stand up in the open and talk about his relationship barring a scandal which forced him out.

But Dibble's speech is indicative of a lot of positive public moments - even in the midst of turmoil - that the lgbt community has been blessed with recently.

These moments are like seeds that are growing. And while they may not grow as fast as we want, they are sprouting. Gone are the days where the majority of lgbts were shamefully in the closet or open and outcasted from their communities.

We are moving forward and will continue to do so. Don't let NOM or any vote attempting to make us second class citizen ever make us forget that.

Why do These People Hate Us so Much ?

I read over a dozen different blogs and follow links to hundreds more. I read and view stuff from both sides and I can not understand why or how my being gay can cause so much hate.

Bryan Fischer gets so worked up telling lies to make other people hate that it looks like he will explode. Extreme Christians ( if you can call them Christians) not only spend time and money in the USA but they carry the lies and hate to other countries. There are countries where being gay will get you beaten, raped, tortured, and killed and some Americans SUPPORT that!

Being gay is as natural as being str8. It is found in most species on the planet and has been a part of the big picture since we first walked the earth.

This hate comes from deep fear. Fear from a belief system that says it is wrong? Fear that they themselves are gay? Fear of a behavior that is different?

First, all Holy books are written by man. Man is a flawed creature at best. Then other men edit the books and called them the word of God. It is not. Then other men read the book and come to their own understanding of the word. Each one has a different understanding and start to break up and fight over the "true" meaning of the book. Some decide to write their own book and create a different "true" word of God. It is not.

Believing in a higher power can and is a good thing for some. I do. But reading only one book and putting all your faith in the words as a guide for life is not good when it causes fear and hate of others.

This fear of God has created a fear of self. We are "born sinners" is BS. We are born a blank slate. We grow and learn and discover ourselves. Some are naturally attracted to the opposite gender and some are naturally attracted to the same gender.  The fear of God can be so strong that some will do anything to hide who they truly are and that deep fear of self can destroy not only the one person but they take out the fear on others.

Fear of being different is man made by the fear of God and the fear of self. Being different is not wrong or bad. It is just different. We are all different in many ways but that is not a reason to hate.

I feel sad for those who are so full of a flawed word and fear of self that they must devote their life to hating others so much and they will do anything to destroy someone who is different from them.

There is a lot of talk and jokes about the upcoming Rapture. I do not believe in it but I have a question for those that do.

Do you honestly believe that after a life of fear, hate, and lies against your fellow beings that you will be sucked up to heaven?

I am afraid you are going to be very disappointed.

International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO)

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has issued a statement supporting today's International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO). Via press release:
In every part of the world, men and women are persecuted and attacked because of who they are or whom they love. Homophobia, transphobia and the brutal hostility associated with them are often rooted in a lack of understanding of what it actually means to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT). So to combat this terrible scourge and break the cycle of fear and violence, we must work together to improve education and support those who stand up against laws that criminalize love and promote hate. As we mark the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia this May 17, let us resolve to redouble our efforts. On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am proud to reaffirm our support for LGBT communities at home and abroad, and to call for an end to discrimination and mistreatment of LGBT persons wherever it occurs. Whether by supporting LGBT advocates marching in Belgrade, leading the effort at the United Nations to affirm the human rights of LGBT persons, or condemning a vile law under consideration in Uganda, we are committed to our friends and allies in every region of the world who are fighting for equality and justice. These are not Western concepts; these are universal human rights.

Despite these gains and hard work, there is more to do to turn the tide of inequality and discrimination against the LGBT community. If you are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, know that the United States stands with you and we are unwavering in our commitment to ending this cycle of hate.

How about starting in our own back yard. It is nice to hear the words AGAIN but they mean nothing. When I have the same protections and benefits that ALL other Americans have, then maybe I will believe it.  DADT and DOMA must be FULLY repealed and ENDA must be INFORCED before I believe another word.

Update on the Rapture

Cross post from joemygod.com

According to End Times proponent Harold Camping, the rapture will occur promptly this Saturday at 6pm in each God-created time zone, giving those of you on the west coast an extra three hours to get right with Jeebus once people on the east coast start vanishing. Also, a massive earthquake will serve to announce the rapture's onset in each time zone. Just so you know.

American Family Association on Harvey Milk Day

American Family Association warns what is in store for school kids on this year's Harvey Milk Day in California.
Children will be required to participate in exercises that honor Milk, which could include mock homosexual "weddings" and cross-dressing contests, as well as writing or reading activities. Pro-family leader [Jerry Cox] decides that public schools are failing to promote good role models for students. "What we ought to be doing is holding up the lives of people that were truly great, people like the Founding Fathers -- the ones who have exemplified all the good in mankind in their life," Cox contends.
I highlighted the word could so you did not miss it like so many of the sheeple who will and freak out thinking this is what the schools will do.
NO SCHOOL will "include mock homosexual "weddings" and cross-dressing contests" as part of the day.
As for our founding Fathers.....They fooled around on the side, fooled around with slaves, smoked and grew hemp, and had fabulous wigs. Oh! And most were NOT Christians.

Caroline Kennedy Signs Marriage Letter

Cross Post from joemygod.com

Caroline Kennedy has become the 100,000th person to sign a letter demanding that the president support same-sex marriage. Via press release from Freedom To Marry:

"Falling in love, getting married, and building a family is part of the American dream,” said Caroline Kennedy. “I believe that all Americans, including committed gay and lesbian couples, should have the opportunity to pursue that dream." Freedom to Marry’s “Say I Do” campaign was launched on March 14th with an Open Letter to the President signed by prominent Americans, including civil rights leaders, Hollywood stars, musicians, and business leaders. Since then, 100,000 Americans have joined the campaign and signed on to the letter calling on the President to join “the majority of Americans who support the freedom to marry.”

Mayday for Marriage

This is as bad as Palin's crosshairs.
They started a "war" that we do not want.
We talk of love and equality, truth and fairness, facts and family
They tell lies, twist facts, call us names, and make our kids feel so bad they want to die.
Now they add sound effects.
I can't for the life of me understand how a sane rational human can not see these sheeple for what they are.
This is an ad being run in New York against gay marriage.
What are we doing about it?  Not much.

GOP Family Values ?

Arnold has made a statment as to why he and the wife are breaking up...

"After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago," Mr Schwarzenegger said in a statement issued to the newspaper. "I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologised to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry. "I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time," the statement concluded. "While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not."

Having a 10 year old child you don't claim can be a sore spot but I am sure he will be forgiven by other members of his party  ( GOP and GOD ) like.......Oh......

Newt Gingrich, Serial Adulterer
John Ensign, adultery and payoffs ( Plus everyone at C Street for helping to cover it up)
Rep. Christopher Lee (R) , Craigslist Adultery
Rev. Cedric Miller , Had 4 way sex with a male assistant  and both wives
Carl Paladino , same as Arnold

The members of the GOP and GOD seem to think they can do what they want, everyone else should not, and God will forgive them but not us.

I am over a bunch of repeat offenders trying to pass laws in Gods name when they can't keep their own dick in their pants.

Takei on Trump

As some of you know, Trump will NOT be running for President. THANK Goddess !
I think George Takei Tweeted it best...

I know you all need to be on top of the whole Rapture event coming up on May 21. The latest chunk of prep comes from Lauri Lebo at Religion Dispatches.
I've been fielding a lot of questions from friends about the upcoming Rapture, which Christian doomsday prognosticator Harold Camping and his sad motley group of followers say will take place May 21. This is the day that true believers will be taken up to heaven, while everybody else -- Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, atheists, agnostics and anyone who supports gay marriage or accepts evolution -- will be stuck here on Earth for another six months while war and pestilence rains down on us. Then, on Oct. 21, the world will end. ...Well, because God created time zones -- just as he apparently created US international borders -- the Rapture will begin at 6 p.m. in each time zone. Also, you'll know when the Rapture will begin because it will be preceded by an earthquake.

..."starting in the Pacific Rim at around the 6 p.m. local time hour, in each time zone, there will be a great earthquake, such as has never been in the history of the Earth," he says. The true Christian believers -- he hopes he's one of them -- will be "raptured": They'll fly upward to heaven. And for the rest?
"It's just the horror of horror stories," he says, "and on top of all that, there's no more salvation at that point. And then the Bible says it will be 153 days later that the entire universe and planet Earth will be destroyed forever."
Facebook pages such as Post rapture looting have popped up (and need to correct the time). Laurie also called for drink suggestions for the day as well as music selections. Also see:

Hate Crimes Charges for Maryland Attackers

I am very glad the good people of Maryland saw fit to charge these 2 with a hate crime. If this was not one, I don't know what is.
There are strong opinions about the use of Hate Crimes laws and they are often not used when they should.
A Hate Crimes charge will add more years to the sentence. Both these girls will be found guilty. Of that there is no doubt. Frankly, every single employee that did nothing should be fired.
Thanks to the jackass that filmed the whole thing. It proves without doubt the woman was attacked and is proof of the kind of violence the Transgender population could face every time they walk out the door. No one should have to live in fear of bottom dwellers like this.

Hate crimes charges have been filed against the two Maryland teens arrested last month for the brutal attack on a transgender woman at a Baltimore McDonald's.
The indictment returned Monday by a Baltimore County grand jury charges Teonna Brown with assault and a hate crime in the attack on Chrissy Lee Polis last month. She is also charged with assaulting a customer and a McDonald's employee who tried to intervene. A 14-year-old girl is facing the same charges in juvenile court. A videotape of the April 18 beating posted online shows a woman being attacked repeatedly while an employee and customer try to stop them. The woman then appears to have a seizure.
The day after the attack, McDonald's fired the employee who filmed the incident with his cell phone rather than attempting to intervene.

An Open Letter To Newt Gingrich From His Gay Sister Candace

corss post from girl du jour

Posted on | 3 Comments
Dear Newt,newt-gingrich-racist1
I recently had the displeasure of watching you bash the protestors of the Prop 8 marriage ban to Bill O’Reilly on FOX News. I must say, after years of watching you build your career by stirring up the fears and prejudices of the far right, I feel compelled to use the words of your idol, Ronald Reagan, “There you go, again.”
However, I realize that you may have been a little preoccupied lately with planning your resurrection as the savior of your party, so I thought I would fill you in on a few important developments you might have overlooked.
The truth is that you’re living in a world that no longer exists. I, along with millions of Americans, clearly see the world the way it as — and we embrace what it can be. You, on the other hand, seem incapable of looking for new ideas or moving beyond what worked in the past.
Welcome to the 21st century, big bro. I can understand why you’re so afraid of the energy that has been unleashed after gay and lesbian couples had their rights stripped away from them by a hateful campaign. I can see why you’re sounding the alarm against the activists who use all the latest tech tools to build these rallies from the ground up in cities across the country.
This unstoppable progress has at its core a group we at HRC call Generation Equality. They are the most supportive of full LGBT equality than any American generation ever — and when it comes to the politics of division, well, they don’t roll that way. 18-24 year olds voted overwhelmingly against Prop 8 and overwhelmingly for Barack Obama. And the numbers of young progressive voters will only continue to grow. According to the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning, about 23 million 18-29 year olds voted on Nov. 4, 2008 — the most young voters ever to cast a ballot in a presidential election. That’s an increase of 3 million more voters compared to 2004.
These are the same people who helped elect Barack Obama and sent a decisive message to your party. These young people are the future and their energy will continue to drive our country forward. Even older Americans are turning their backs on the politics of fear and demagoguery that you and your cronies have perfected over the years.
This is a movement of the people that you most fear. It’s a movement of progress — and your words on FOX News only show how truly desperate you are to maintain control of a world that is changing before your very eyes.
Then again, we’ve seen these tactics before. We know how much the right likes to play political and cultural hardball, and then turn around and accuse us of lashing out first. You give a pass to a religious group — one that looks down upon minorities and women — when they use their money and membership roles to roll back the rights of others, and then you label us “fascists” when we fight back. You belittle the relationships of gay and lesbian couples, and yet somehow neglect to explain who anointed you the protector of “traditional” marriage. And, of course, you’ve also mastered taking the foolish actions of a few people and then indicting an entire population based on those mistakes. I fail to see how any of these patterns coincide with the values of “historic Christianity” you claim to champion.
Again, nothing new here. This is just more of the blatant hypocrisy we’re used to hearing.
What really worries me is that you are always willing to use LGBT Americans as political weapons to further your ambitions. That’s really so ’90s, Newt. In this day and age, it’s embarrassing to watch you talk like that. You should be more afraid of the new political climate in America, because, there is no place for you in it.
In other words, stop being a hater, big bro.

Well, there you have it…

Baltimore Gay Chorus Might Be Responsible for the End of the World (So come hear them perform one last time!)

Published May 11, 2011
By now, you may have heard the end of the world will be happening soon. I’m sure some of you already have the perfect outfit picked out—that special hat that says, “Armageddon’s coming and I look fabulous!”
Then again, if you’ve been out of the evangelical loop, you may have missed the news that Pastor Harold Camping and his friends at Family Radio have been sharing. According to his biblical calculations, the good reverend figured out that on Saturday, May 21, 2011 the Almighty is going to show up for one last curtain call before the whole show ends and some pretty angry angels strike the set.
You may not have heard that it’s possible this whole mess might be the fault of—you guessed it— “the gays.” And not just any gays: the gay men of The Baltimore Men’s Chorus might be to blame! As their director, I feel sort of responsible, so, if you’ll indulge me, I thought I should explain it all before it’s too late.
First, a little about the Men’s Chorus: We’re Baltimore’s oldest gay chorus, having just celebrated our 25th anniversary last season. Currently, the chorus has about 20 members and we sing a variety of classical, pop, and show music, which we rehearse on Sunday nights at Saints Philip and James Church on Charles St.
But the real story of the whole “end of the world” thing started back in September when the Men’s Chorus chose “Beginnings and Endings” as the theme for our spring Cabaret. The idea is that all the songs we’ll sing involve a beginning or an ending (e.g., a song from the beginning of a musical, a song about the end of a relationship).
Then, about a month ago, I saw a bus advertisement that read: “Judgment Day: May 21, 2011!” At first I thought it was referencing a monster truck rally, but eventually realized this was the Judgment Day of hell-fire and brimstone.
That’s when it occurred to me: it’s the same day as the Men’s Chorus concert, and our theme is “Beginnings and Endings!” And they’ve been saying all along that the gays were going to screw things up for everybody! It was all just too much to be a coincidence. I did wonder why God didn’t choose to end the world on June 4, the concert date of Baltimore’s other gay chorus, the New Wave Singers. (Check them out, if the world is still standing, at NewWaveSingers.org.)
So if you don’t have anything planned for the rapture, and you’re still here with all us sinners after God takes up the chosen few, drop by the University of Baltimore Student Center on Saturday, May 21, and listen as the Baltimore Men’s Chorus performs its spring concert, “Beginnings and Endings.”
Be sure to hear us now…it might be your last chance!

100 Michigan Law Students Walk Out Of Graduation: LGBTs Winning Hearts and Minds

This is GREAT!  It is good to see that Michigan just graduated a bumper crop of fair minded and inclusive students. 1/3 of the house walked out in protest of Ohio Sen. Rob Portman and his anti-gay crap.
OSU will have to put up with Speaker of the House John Boehner for their Spring commencement. Boehner is also from Ohio who is anti-gay and anti art.
The more Ohio and it's backwoods bigotry is in the news and continues to promote discrimination, the more I am ashamed of my home state.
The students from Michigan Law made it clear from the start they did not want Portman to speak and why. The school did not listen and the result was a walk out. Good for them !
These are the people who will be running the country soon and they do not see gay rights as a debate. They see gay rights as something unfair and to be fixed so we are all equal.

Sarah Sarah

Hey, maybe you have heard about this controversy over a graduation speaker at Michigan law? Or maybe not, because although this is the kind of thing Autostraddle would’ve talked about a few weeks ago, we didn’t because this story is a little complicated. Because of me. See, I go to Michigan Law, and in December, I became the co-chair of the school’s LGBT organization. I’ve been on the front lines of the graduation speaker controversy from the beginning, and this seems to be the most optimal place from which to tell this story.

The Story

Sen. Rob Portman
So what happened? Well, three weeks ago, Michigan Law announced that Ohio Sen. Rob Portman would be their graduation speaker. Almost immediately, members of the graduating class began expressing disappointment in the choice because of Sen. Portman’s abysmal record on gay rights. He voted for the Defense of Marriage Act, for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, and for a ban on gay adoption in D.C., to name a few votes. His record on many other issues has been consistently conservative. But students focused almost exclusively on his votes against gay equality.
The movement against Sen. Portman grew from there. We held a bunch of meetings and exchanged countless emails. More than 300 students and more than 200 alumni signed letters to the law school dean expressing their opposition. Many more sent the dean personal messages. The efforts were about as effective as these things usually are: the administration listened and apologized for causing a rift in the class, but made it clear that Sen. Portman would remain the graduation speaker.
Our next step was to design a protest that would be visible at graduation. We started taking orders for rainbow tassels and buttons to be worn at the ceremony, and about thirty faculty members and 150 students ordered some rainbow gear. The more controversial option involved a walkout during Sen. Portman’s speech.
Graduation day finally came this past Saturday. Before the ceremony, some students and I handed out pamphlets with rainbow pins on them, explaining the protests. Some people refused them or ripped them up, but for the most part everyone was supportive. For every person that handed it back, there was a student that took a handful of pamphlets, shoved them into their parents’ hands and told them to put on the pins.

photo by Andrew Potter, Between the Lines
The walkout was scheduled to start when the senator got ready for his speech. We had estimated that maybe 40 students would join in. There was always the fear that in the heat of the moment, people would decide not to rock the boat. Instead, people decided they should join their classmates. In all, over 100 students (1/3 of the class) walked out of their own graduation. Check out this video from PrideSource, which shows the mood in the lobby during the protest:

The Point

I have had my qualms with the It Gets Better campaign. Things don’t get better for some people. Not everyone can go to college or move to San Francisco. Not everyone has the option of coming out or of avoiding bigots. Growing up and reaching your 20s does not automatically make life as a queer person any easier.
Still, in the big picture, Dan Savage has a point. That liberal rallying cry — the arc of history bends toward justice — is true in many ways. It can be difficult to see that sometimes, through all the disheartening elections and the hate speech and bullying and suicide and the Tea Party and Fred Phelps. But I think we are making progress.
To my generation, LGBT equality is not a political question anymore; it is an issue of basic human rights. Even people far beyond the boundaries of the queer community are starting to understand our cause. The protests at Michigan Law’s graduation are just a small example of the generational shift we are witnessing right now.
Don’t get me wrong, I realize that Ann Arbor, U of M, and in fact most law schools are uniquely liberal places. Queerness is much more accepted here than in most towns in America. And Michigan students have been protesting conservative speakers for decades, like Henry Kissinger in 1975; the undergrads protested Republican Gov. Rick Snyder as the commencement speaker this year. In other communities, people protest because their schools give honorary degrees to President Obama (and not because it took him so long to overturn Don’t Ask Don’t Tell). Catholic organizations chastise Catholic universities for honoring people who have expressed support of limited access to abortion.
The difference between those protests and the one at Michigan is the message. Students made it clear from the beginning that their objection was not political, even though Sen. Portman has made plenty of other objectionable votes. It was not about liberal vs. conservative. Their objection was deeper. As one of my classmates put it on his blog: “For the next generation of lawyers, this is not even a debatable issue.” It means something that such a large group of people at Michigan cared so much about a symbolic slam against LGBT people. Communities like Ann Arbor are canaries in the coal mine; when we reach a critical mass of people who will not tolerate discrimination based on sexual orientation, maybe the rest of the country isn’t so far behind.
Of course, there will always be places that hold out and resist tolerance at all costs. The fight never ends; we still grapple with racism and sexism on a daily basis, and I suspect we will still be dealing with homophobia for decades to come. The point is, though, that the people who walked out of Michigan Law’s graduation are the people who will be in charge in ten or twenty years. It may be elitist, but the fact is that lawyers are one of the groups that have a lot of power to make laws and set agendas for the country. Winning over the legal profession is a really great step for the gay rights movement. We will have to work a lot harder to fix the small-scale instances of homophobia, the stares when you walk down the street holding your girlfriend’s hand or the raised eyebrow from the hotel clerk booking a one-bed room for the two of you. But fixing the laws of this country and creating an environment where the government does not sponsor discrimination against LGBT people goes a long way toward achieving equality.
A few weeks ago, a friend emailed me to say that no matter what happened at graduation, she already felt like she won, and it sums up my feelings perfectly: “For the first time in my life, I’m in a place where I know that the majority of people support my rights, and that is a new and beautiful feeling.”
