Equality Maryland Happy New Years

The new year is coming and there are lists of accomplishments covering many topics. I will be posting the ones I find interesting, funny, or directly effect my community.
I want to thank Equality Maryland and Morgan for all the hard work they have done. Many of our friends work with and for Equality Maryland and I want to thank them for putting out so much to help the cause.
At the top of this list should be that Mrs. and Mrs. Meneses-Sheets became new Moms.
Congratulations!

Morgan Meneses-Sheets
Executive Director

Dear Friend,
I wanted to wish you a happy New Year!
The past 12 months have given us a lot to celebrate in Maryland. We’ve stood strong through tough electoral battles, grown our statewide movement, and had heartfelt conversations with our family, friends, and neighbors about why equality matters to us. Together, we’ve taken enormous steps towards ending discrimination against LGBT Marylanders. Here are some major accomplishments we can all celebrate from 2010:
  • Our field team and volunteers identified over 10,000 new supporters of gender identity anti-discrimination protections and marriage for same-sex couples in all regions of the state.
  • We increased LGBT representation in our state legislature by electing seven openly LGBT Delegates and Senators
  • We bolstered our grassroots power by launching action teams in six counties. Our teams hold actions weekly and were crucial in securing key electoral victories.
  • We elected 73 of our 81 endorsed candidates, paving the way for a fair-minded majority in Annapolis in 2011.
