Gays and our struggle are not part of American history and few schools teach anything about it. Our young people want and need to know our history and how we have contributed to the fabric of our nation. These kids have questions and seek answers.
This is the first in a series about our gay history. "Coming Out in the 1950s," including an interview with Phyllis Lyon, who speaks about how she met her wife, Del Martin. Phyllis and Del were the first couple to get married in DC. Their commitment to each other and the gay community makes them icons. Sadly, about a month after they were married, Del passed away but she left her mark on us as a leader and lover of life.
